Dr. D Y Patil Stadium is a cricket stadium located in the DY Patil Vidyanagar Campus at Nerul in Navi Mumbai, India. The design of the stadium was done by Hafeez Contractor who is one of the premier architects in India. It is also one of India's newest sports venues as it was built as recently as 2008. It is a medium sized stadium with a capacity of almost 55,000. Although the stadium was built keeping cricket in mind, it has other sports facilities built within it. For instance, the stadium has 9 indoor tennis courts, 4 indoor badminton courts & an Olympic sized swimming pool. The stadium will also hosted two soccer matches.
So far, the stadium has not hosted any international cricket matches. But it has hosted IPL matches & has acted as the home ground for teams like Pune Warriors & Deccan Chargers. It is an extremely modern stadium with all the facilities that a modern stadium has. Materials for its roof were flown in from Germany while the soil for the ground was brought in from South Africa. It also has a high-tech media & corporate center.
