Known as the Mecca of Cricket, Lord's is the most famed & respected cricket ground in the world. It is located in the St. John's Wood area of London. The stadium is named after its founder Thomas Lord & is owned by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). It is one of the oldest cricket stadiums in the world having been built on the year 1814. The present form of this stadium is a result of redevelopment program that was carried out in 1998-99.
The stadium is the home venue of the Middlesex County Cricket Team & is also the head office of the ECB as well as the ICC. Currently Lord's has a capacity of 28,000. The main Grand Stand was built in 1997 replacing the old structure designed by Sir Herbart Baker. The unique feature of the old Grand Stand was the Father Time (a weathervane placed atop the Grand Stand) which was later moved to the other side of the ground. In 1998 a new media center was also added to Lord's. In 2007 floodlights were added which now makes Lord's capable of hosting D/N matches. The stadium is also slated to be the archery venue of the 2012 Summer Olympics.
