Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, also known as Muttiah Muralitharan International Cricket Stadium, is a cricket stadium located in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This is a new stadium having been built as recently as 2009. This 35,000 capacity stadium is owned & operated by Sri Lanka Cricket. This new stadium was built to replace the old Asgiriya Stadium which is also located in Kandy. The first test match at the Pallekele Stadium was played in December 2010 between Sri Lanka & West Indies. The first ODI was played in March this year between Pakistan & New Zealand. The first T20 was played as recently as 6th August 2011 between Sri Lanka & Australia. The stadium also played host to a few matches of the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
