Captain Roop Singh Stadium is a cricket ground located in the central Indian city of Gwalior in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The stadium was built in 1986 & currently has a capacity of 45,000. Ironically the person after whom the stadium is named was an Olympic gold medalist in hockey. That is because; it was originally a hockey stadium before it was converted into a cricket ground.
The stadium hosted its first cricket match in 1988 which was played between India & West Indies. This is the ground where Sachin Tendulker (200*) became the first cricketer to score a double century in one-day cricket. The match was played in 2010 against South Africa. India went on to win the match comfortably. The pitch here has always favored the batsmen & bowlers get very little help from it. So far, Captain Roop Singh Stadium has played host to 10 one-day matches including matches in the 1996 World Cup.
