Sardar Patel Stadium, popularly known as the Motera and now Narendra Modi Stadium, is a cricket stadium located in the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Since it is located in the Motera locality of the city, is also called the Motera Stadium. Built in the year 1982, the Motera is owned & managed by the Gujarat Cricket Association. IPL team Rajasthan Royals used this ground as their home venue in 2010. Currently it is one of the biggest stadiums in India with a capacity of 54,000.
The Motera has been granted test status by the ICC & thus it is used as a venue for both one-day & test matches. The first test match on this ground was played between India & West Indies in the year 1983. The first one-day, on the other hand, was played a year later in 1984 between India & Australia. This is the ground where Sunil Gavaskar scored his 10,000th run in test cricket against Pakistan in 1986-87 & seven years after that in 1994 Kapil Dev became the highest wicket taker in test history on this very ground.
