There will be a T20 World Cup 2021 starting on October 17th in the United Arab Emirates, and nations have started revealing their squads one by one as they prepare. For the next ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, Sri Lanka has announced their 15-member team.
It will be Dasun Shanaka who will be leading the team as they kick off their campaign against Namibia on 18 October in Abu Dhabi, where they will also face Ireland and the Netherlands in Group A.
Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis, and Danushka Gunathilaka, who was banned for a year for violating Covid-19 regulations during their tour of England in July, were the only notable absences from the team. The unexpected pick is 21-year old off spinner Mahesh Theekshana. He is an off-spinner and made his debut against South Africa. In the tournament against South Africa, he impressed the selectors with his outstanding bowling ability. Theekshana’s off-break, disguised as an off-speed carom ball and googly, was especially impressive in the recent SLC domestic T20 invitational league. That is why Theekshana is named for the World Cup lineup.
The lone inexperienced player in the team is left-arm spinner Jayawickrama. When he first made his Test debut earlier this year, it was against Bangladesh, in which he took 11 wickets. After his debut in the first ODI, he has played five ODIs and has taken five wickets at an average of 35.50. In spite of his lack of experience, he's been efficient in his 13 innings of domestic T20 cricket, taking 12 wickets.

Lahiru Madushanka, Dushmantha Chameera, Pradeep, and Chamika Karunaratne are Sri Lanka's seam bowlers, with Dushmantha Chameera leading the way. Binura Fernando, along with Lahiru Kumara, are on reserves for a possible appearance.
It is more likely that the addition of Rajapaksa is due to his recognized repute. Rajapaksa was a great hitter on the school circuit more than a decade ago, but his home record is unimpressive. There have been seven T20 international innings for him and he has 140 runs at a strike rate of 130, however, his match-winning 77 off 45 against Pakistan in 2019 was a notable exception. As for the One-Day Internationals, he's had an unimpressive record.
After a superb performance in a T20 invitational competition, Kamindu joins the team. When it comes to fielding, Kamindu is recognized for his fielding ability, as well as his bowling ability.
Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, etc. are the important players to watch in the T20 WC from Sri Lanka's perspective. When Sri Lanka announced their team, the return of Dinesh Chandimal was seen as a major factor.
It should be mentioned that Lanka is presently involved in a white-ball series against South Africa, and their success in the T20I series over South Africa would be crucial.
