Highest 9th Wicket Partnership in Test
In any format of cricket, the player at the 10th position is usually the main bowler of the team with a few batting skills but he can support his partner by spending time on the crease or making some runs. In the history of Test cricket, there are many big 9th wicket partnerships of more than 150 runs scored. Players like Pat Symcox, Intikhab Alam, Abul Hasan, Dale Steyn, Alan Smith, and many more have performed well by supporting their partner and also contributed runs. Pat Symcox, Abul Hasan are some of the leading bowlers who have scored the century inning in their test career. The highest 9th wicket partnership in Test cricket is 195 runs scored by South African Mark Boucher and Pat Symcox against Pakistan at Johannesburg on 14 Feb 1998. Pat Symcox, who was a spinner of South Africa, struck a century in that match.
The second highest 9th wicket partnership is 190 runs scored by Pakistan’s Asif Iqbal and Intikhab Alam against England at The Oval on 24 Aug 1967. The 3rd highest partnership for the 8th wicket is 184 runs added by Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah and Abul Hasan against West Indies at Khulna on 21 Nov 2012. For India, the highest 9th wicket partnership is 149 runs added by Nana Joshi and Ramakant Desai against Pakistan at Mumbai on 2 Dec 1960. Both the players played very well for the 9th wicket and struck fifty each. After 23 years, the second time Sunil Gavaskar and Syed Kirmani played an awesome inning of unbeaten 143 as the 2nd highest 9th wicket partnership for India.
There have been 10 times when a team has added 150 or more for the 9th wicket in the history of Test Cricket in which South Africa, Pakistan, England & West Indies 2 times and Australia, Bangladesh once have scored 150+ runs for the 10th wicket in pairs. India has never been able to put the 150+ total on in Test cricket.
Hope to watch any 150+ runs 9th wicket partnership from India too in the coming time.
