Malinga struck a match-winning inning in that match and they won by 1 wicket.

There are 8 times when a team has added 100+ runs for the 9th wicket in the history of ODI cricket. India has done this feat 4 times and the first 100+ runs partnership for the 9th wicket for India was made by Kapil Dev and Syed Kirmani against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells on 18 Jun 1983. They scored unbeaten 126 runs on the scoreboard for the 9th wicket and that is the highest 9th wicket partnership in ODI for India. Then after a long wait of 22 years, Jai Prakash Yadav and Irfan Pathan added 100+ runs for the 9th wicket.

India 4 times and Sri Lanka, Australia, Africa XI, and England have added 100+ for the 9th wicket only one time in the past record of ODI. Bangladesh, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan, and New Zealand have never been able to score 100+ total for the 9th wicket.

For South Africa, the highest partnership for the 9th wicket is 95 runs against England at The Oval on 19 Jun 2013. For Pakistan, Sarfraz Ahmed, and Hasan Ali scored 90 runs as the highest 9th wicket partnership against South Africa.
