Highest 6th Wicket Partnership in ODI

In ODI, it will be unfair to expect a big partnership from the lower middle-order batsmen. The batsman at the number 7 position hardly gets 10-12 overs and is meant to make quick runs for the team. When the top order and middle order fail then the role of the lower middle order becomes crucial but a team should not expect more from him. There are many moments when the lower order batsmen performed well and saved the matches. Batsmen like Glen Maxwell, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (many times played at number 7), Daren Sammy, Ravindra Jadeja and many more have performed well for the 6th wicket and dominated the opposition. It seems unbelievable that 3 times any team have scored more than 200 runs for the 6th wicket in ODI. There are 17 times when batsmen have scored 150+ runs for 6th wicket in ODI.

The highest 6th wicket partnership in ODI is unbeaten 267 runs for New Zealand scored by Grant Elliott and Luke Ronchi against Sri Lanka at Dunedin on 23 Jan 2015. New Zealand’s Luke Ronchi at the number 7 position made unbeaten 170 runs after losing 5 wickets at 93 runs and added a total of 360 runs on the scoreboard. For India, the highest 6th wicket partnership is 160 runs scored by Ambati Rayudu and Stuart Binny against Zimbabwe at Harare on 10 Jul 2015. The first 150+ runs for India as the 6th wicket partnership was made by Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni against Zimbabwe at Harare on 4 Sep 2005. Indian team has added 150+ runs 3 times for the 6th wicket partnership in ODI, then New Zealand, Sri Lanka, & West Indies 2 times, England & Australis 1 time. Pakistan and Bangladesh have never been capable of reaching 150+ runs for the 6th wicket.

For Bangladesh, the highest 6th wicket partnership in ODI is 128 runs made by Imrul Kayes and  Mahmudullah against Afghanistan at Abu Dhabi on 23 Sep 2018. West Indies batsmen Richie Richardson & Jeff Dujon have added 154 runs as the highest 6th wicket partnership in 1991. English batters have scored 150 runs for the 6th wicket as the highest partnership in ODI for England against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo on 5 Dec 2004. For Pakistan, 147 runs is the highest partnership for the 6th wicket scored by Fawad Alam and Sohaib Maqsood in 2014.
