Highest 5th Wicket Partnership in ODI
In ODI, the batsman at the number 6 position is generally an all-rounder who is skilled enough to play according to the conditions. In the case of early wickets, he has to stay on the crease to build a big partnership with his partner. He must have the capability to play fast according to the requirement and also must be able to stay longer on the crease if the top order fails and the team loses 4 wickets very early. All-rounders like JP Duminy, Ravi Bopara, Ajay Jadeja, Kedar Jadhav, Grant Flower, Yuvraj Singh have performed well in the middle order and made a strong grip on the match many times whenever the top order failed. There are 6 times when any team scored 200+ for the 5th wicket in the history of ODI, out of which India has scored two 200+ runs two times.
The highest 5th wicket partnership in ODI is unbeaten 256 runs scored by David Miller and JP Duminy against Zimbabwe at Hamilton on 15 Feb 2015 in the ICC World Cup 2015. Both the batsmen played after losing 4 quick wickets and struck centuries that helped South Africa to put a big total of 339 runs on the scoreboard. The second highest 5th wicket partnership is unbeaten 226 runs scored by England batsmen Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara while chasing 270 runs target against Ireland at Dublin (Malahide) on 3 Sep 2013.
For India, the first 200+ runs for the 5th wicket partnership was made by Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja against Sri Lanka at Colombo (RPS) on 17 Aug 1997. Then after 20 years, Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav added 200 runs for the 5th wicket against England after losing 4 wickets at 63 runs and successfully chased the target of 351 runs. Indian team has scored 200+ runs maximum times, i.e. 2 times for the 5th wicket. South Africa, England, Australia, and Bangladesh scored 200 or more runs once for the 5th wicket partnership in the history of ODI. Sri Lanka, West Indies, and New Zealand have never been capable of scoring 200+ runs for the 5th wicket partnership in ODI. The highest 5th wicket partnership for New Zealand was 195 runs against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo on 25 Oct 2011. West Indies batsman Evin Lewis and Jason Holder added an unbeaten 168 runs partnership for the 5th wicket against England at The Oval on 27 Sep 2017.
