Highest 2nd Wicket Partnership in ODI

In the One Day International, the player at the number three position plays a key role for the team when it loses the first wicket very early. The batter at the number three position must be ready to play the new ball anytime in order to handle the situation. There are many players in the history of cricket who came up early after falling 1st wicket very soon and performed well under pressure. Players like Marlon Samuels, Rahul Dravid, Abdul Razzaq, Steven Smith, Ricky Ponting, Inzamam-ul-Haq are some of them. When a team builds a big partnership for the 2nd wicket then it provides confidence to the middle order batsmen to play their games without pressure. There are three times when any team has built a 2nd wicket partnership of 300+ runs in the past record of ODI. India has done this feat two times.

The highest 2nd wicket partnership is 372 runs made by West Indies batsmen, Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels, against Zimbabwe at Canberra on 24 Feb 2015. Gayle was awesome in that match and struck 215 runs. The second biggest for the 2nd wicket partnership is 331 runs added by Indian batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid against New Zealand at Hyderabad on 8 Nov 1999. India has made 13 times 200+ runs for the 2nd wicket in the past record of ODI. For India, the first-ever 200+ runs partnership for the 2nd wicket was added by Sachin Tendulkar and Navjot Sidhu against Pakistan at Sharjah on 15 Apr 1996. Then Saurav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid scored 236 runs for the 2nd wicket for India in the year 1999.

Indian team has scored 200+ runs 13 times for the 2nd wicket partnership in ODI, then Pakistan 5 times, Australia & West Indies 4 times each, Sri Lanka 3 times, England, South Africa, Bangladesh 2 times each added 200+ runs for 2nd wicket in the history of ODI. New Zealand has not yet built a partnership of 200+ runs for the 2nd wicket in ODI.
