Highest 8th Wicket Partnership in T20 International
It would not be fair if expecting big runs from the batsman at the 9th position in cricket. T20 International is limited to 20 overs only and very few times, the 9th number player gets the chance to come out and bat. The lower order players are mostly bowlers but sometimes a team has got some key players who can bat and ball at the number 9 position too. Players like Rusty Theron, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Mitchell Johnson, Fawad Alam, Graeme Swann, and many more, have proved that they have the ability to bat at number 9 and make runs. In T20I matches, these players played a major role at the time of their requirement and struck big shots, and scored runs for their teams. But it is also the fact that the tail order batsmen succeed every time is not guaranteed.
There are 15 times when the batsmen pair have scored more than 50+ runs for the 8th wicket in the history of T20 International. The very first 50+ runs of partnership for the 8th wicket was added by Shoaib Malik and Fawad Alam of Pakistan against Sri Lanka at King City (NW) on 11 Oct 2008. Fawad Alam at the number 9 position supported his captain Shoaib Malik very well and made unbeaten 23 runs and registered a victory in that 4th match of the T20 Canada series.
The highest 8th wicket partnership in the T20 International is 80 runs and it was made by Scotland batters, Preston Mommsen & Safyaan Sharif, against the Netherlands at Edinburgh on 11 Jul 2015. India has scored 2 times 50+ runs for the 8th wicket and the first one was built by Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan, they struck unbeaten 59 runs against Sri Lanka for the 8th wicket at Colombo (RPS) on 10 Feb 2009.
India, Pakistan, and England have done this feat 2 times, South Africa, Australia, Zimbabwe, Scotland, U.A.E achieved 50+ runs once, in the history of T20I.
