It was no rocket science to guess that India would be dominating the minnows Zimbabwe in the 5 match One Day International bilateral series. But, the sheer surrender of the hosts and the repetitive comprehensive wins secured by the visitors, despite fielding a new face team, ensured that India, for the first time in their cricketing history, would secure a 5-0 whitewash away from their home. The fifth did not offer any decisive change in the fate of the series with its consequence as India was already sailing with an unassailable lead of 4-0.

In the fifth match Zimbabwe batted first and posted a target of 164 runs on a spin friendly track. Amit Mishra, who has been in scintillating form in the series, reserved his best bowling effort for the final match and fetched 6 wickets in the match. Amit Mishra was awarded the Man of the Match title for his bowling endeavour in the match. The chase for India was comprehensive, though the second failure of Cheteshwar Pujara would have yielded some disappointment to the Indian cricket fans. India coasted to victory in just 34 over and with 7 wickets remaining in their kitty. Ajinkya Rahane got an opportunity to show his batting skills and he was the highest scorer for the visitors with his half century. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 48. Shikhar Dhawan was awarded as Man of the Series for his batting contributions in the series while Mishra reached world record for most wickets in a bilateral series.
