The 5 match ODI series between the current reigning One Day International Champions in Cricket against the underdog, Zimbabwe, has begun. India is sporting a new faced team with many names getting opportunity to showcase their cricketing skills on international platform. With India’s captain for 3 formats, M S Dhoni, given a break from this ongoing series, the young blood Indian side is headed under the captaincy of Virat Kohli who is considered to be heir apparent for Indian captaincy.

With the very first match of the 5 match ODI series, Virat Kohli proved that the decision to make him lead the side was not only prudent but most appropriate, as he lead Indian side to victory from forefront.  Zimbabwe was first to bat in the match and with a brilliant 82 from opener Sikandar Raza along with an able support from Sibanda and Chigumbura, Zimbabwe managed to post a respected total of 228 in their 50 over for the loss of 7 wickets. Indian openers got starts but they failed to convert their starts into big innings. However, Kohli scored his second century in just 4 matches of his captaincy, 15th overall.

Virat Kohli, Man of the Match, was well supported by Ambati Rayadu who remained unbeaten on a score of 59. Amit Mishra, having returned to the Indian ODI side after a considerable time period, was the pick of the bowlers for the Numero Uno side with his 3 wickets. India now lead 1-0 in this 5 match ODI series.
