A lot was at stake for India and England, on 23rd June when they took to field for the final contest of 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. India had become World Champions in 2011 but faced one of the most disastrous outings overseas in following two years with 8 successive test losses and even a 3-1 drubbing in home test series at the hands of England, their counterpart in the Sunday final. Greats like Dravid, Laxman and Sachin were now legends and history in ODIs and India now comprised on sheer young talent. Though having reached the pinnacle of ICC ODI ranking, India was still to consolidate their position overseas and the opportunity was staring them in the face.

On the other hand, England had still got to get rid of the first win monkey from their backs in a major ICC tournament in last fifty years. The English team was keen not to let repeat what has happened last 5 times when they had reached to an ICC final. The final was marred heavily by rains and the resultant was as ironic as it could have got – a T20 match to decide the title winner of a coveted ODI tournament.

English bowlers did well to decimate Indian innings at 129 runs and they were once cruising at 103 for 4 in 17 over while Morgan and Bopara were going great guns. However, English batsmen choked and India won a sensational last ball victory to become title holders of last ICC Champions Trophy.
