WTC 2023 Final: One of the biggest games of 2023 will kick off on June 7. It is a high-voltage clash between No. 1 ranked India and No. 2 ranked Australia for the final of the World Test Championship 2021-23. This match will take place at the Oval in England. Both teams reached England a week ago and started their preparation for the marquee event. It will be a blockbuster event, and fans are hoping for a close contest between the two best sides.
The Indian team will miss the services of Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul due to injury. On the other hand, star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is out of action after his car accident. Thus, Rohit Sharma and his men will highly rely on their key players. This will be the second back-to-back WTC final for the Indian team. Last time, Virat Kohli led them to the final in 2021. But they ended up on the losing side, and it was New Zealand that won the game at Lords in 2021.
It means that Team India has some unfinished business on their hands. They will look to end the ICC trophy drought. Notably, India hasn’t won an ICC trophy since 2013. They won an ICC event last time under MS Dhoni, which was the 2013 Champions Trophy, and will have another shot to add another ICC title to their kitty this time around. But it will not be easy, as Australia is also prepared to win the maiden WTC mess.
Who will win the Trophy if the WTC 2023 Final will end in a Draw?
Australia will be a tough opponent to beat. Though India registered a dominating 3-1 win in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home. But the conditions in England are totally different than in India. On top of that, the ICC also confirmed that the final will take place using Duke balls, which are totally different from the balls used in India (SG balls). It swings more in English conditions.
Whoever wins the final will be crowned the World Test champion. But what will happen if the match ends with a draw. Who will be the winner in case the match couldn’t take place due to rain or other issues. Will it be Australia that ended the WTC table at the top? Well, the possibility of the game ending in a draw is also there; hence, as per the rule, if it happens, both teams will be joint WTC winners.
On the other hand, that will also be applicable if the game ends without a result due to rain. However, if there is a rain interruption, then there is a reserve day, which will come into play in the case of the loss of overs and time during the game. As per the rules, a total of 30 hours are allotted to complete a test. It comes down to six hours a day or 90 overs a day. But if, due to rain or any other condition, there is a loss of time in the first five days, then the game will go on reserve day.
