The game of cricket is the second most popular sport in the world after football. And the biggest trophy in cricket is the ODI World Cup, which takes place every four years. So far, a total of 12 World Cups have been played, and six teams have won the most prestigious title in the game.
West Indies wo the first two editions of the tournament, while Australia is the most successful teams in the game with five World Cup titles. 6. England – 2019 ODI World Cup – (Last World Cup Winner)
England became the most recent champions of the One day World Cup. They have hosted the tournament five times in total but won the tournament in 2019. They defeated New Zealand in the final of the tournament in a rather unusual manner. The match was tied and the super-over was score was also equal. But as England scored more boundaries than New Zealand in the game, they were declared the winners. England won their maiden World Cup under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan.
5. Sri Lanka – 1996 ODI World Cup, 1 Time Winner
Sri Lanka won their maiden 5050 World Cup in 1996 under the leadership of Arjuna Ranatunga. This tournament featured a total of 12 teams, and it was co-hosted by India and Pakistan. Sri Lanka won the tournament, beating Australia in the final by seven wickets. Sanath Jayasuriya was awarded the “Man of the Series” in the tournament.
4. Pakistan – 1992 ODI World Cup Winner, 1 Time
Pakistan has also won the 50 50 World Cup once in its history. It was legendary all-rounder Imran Khan who led the Men in Green to glory in 1992. Australia and New Zealand cohosted the tournament, and Pakistan played England in the final. The Men in Green emerged victorious and won the final by 22 runs. New Zealand batter Martin Crowe, who scored the most runs (456), won “Player of the Series.”
3. West Indies – 1975 and 1979 ODI World Cup, 2 Time World Champion
West Indies was the first ever team to win the ODI World Cup in 1975. They won the inaugural edition, which took place in England. The West Indies met Australia in the final and won by 17 runs. Then, they successfully defended their title in the next edition 1979 as well. The 1979 WC also took place in England and this time the hosts qualified for the final with West Indies. And the Caribbean team won it by 92 runs to lift their successive World titles.
2. India – 1983 and 2011 World Cup, 2 Time Winner
Team India was the team that broke the streak of the West Indies in the 1983 World Cup. West Indies had won the previous two editions in 1975 and 1979. Not many gave India a chance before the tournament, but history was recorded, and India became only the second team to win the World Cup in 1983 under the leadership of Kapil Dev. Then again in 2011, MS Dhoni led India to their second World Cup title at home, beating Sri Lanka in the final.

Australia is the most successful team in the history of the game. They have won the One day World Cup title five times, which is the most by any team. Although it took Australia four editions to win their first title in 1987, beating England in the final. But after that, they won another four tournaments in 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015, respectively. Allan Border, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting (twice), and Michael Clarke have led Australia to World Cup glories.
