3. West Indies (372/2) against Zimbabwe at Canberra
The third highest total for the West Indies came in the 2015 World Cup against Zimbabwe in Canberra. It was West Indies that won the toss and chose to bat first. But they had a bad start as they lost their first wicket without any score. But after that, the world saw the biggest partnership ever in ODI cricket. Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels added 372 runs for the second wicket to register the biggest partnership ever in an ODI for any wicket.
Gayle smashed his highest score and made a double century. He scored 215 runs off 147 balls, including 10 fours and 16 maximums. Samuels scored 133* runs with 11 fours and 3 sixes. West Indies made 372/2 in their 50 overs. In reply, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 289 runs and lost the match by 73 runs.
2. West Indies (381/3) against Ireland at Dublin
The second highest total came against Ireland at Dublin. It was the first match of the tri-series and Ireland won the toss and chose to bowl first. It was a dream start for West Indies with the bat and both openers struck two big hundreds. They added 365 runs for the first wicket, which is the highest by any team for the first wicket. Shai Hope made 170 off 152 balls, with 22 fours and 2 sixes.
John Campbell made 179 off 137 balls, including 15 fours and 6 sixes. In 50 overs, the West Indies scored 381/3 runs. In reply, Ireland had a worse performance in the batting. They got all out for 185 runs and lost the match by 196 runs. West Indies registered their second highest ODI total in this game.
1. West Indies (389) against England (West Indies’ highest in ODI)
West Indies’ highest total came on a losing course. It was the fourth match of the five-match series against England at St. George’s. After winning the toss, West Indies chose to bowl first. But England had a tremendous day with the bat. The English team scored 418/6 in their 50 overs. Skipper Eoin Morgan scored 103 runs off 88 balls. The blistering century, however, came from Jos Buttler’s bat. He scored 150 off 77 balls, with 13 fours and 12 maximums.
In reply to this huge target, not many gave the West Indies a chance. But then came an incredible century from the bat of Chris Gayle. He smashed 162 runs off 97 balls, including 11 fours and 14 maximums. He kept his team in the chase. But once he got out, it was England back into the game. West Indies were eventually all out for 389 runs, losing the innings by 29 runs.
