1. Virender Sehwag – 309 vs Pakistan in March 2004
With some quick hundreds, Sehwag showed the world that he is capable of playing big innings. Then, he crossed the 200-run mark for the first time against Pakistan in Multan in March-April 2004 and went on to score a triple century. Sehwag made 309 runs off 375 balls, with 39 fours and six sixes. India won that game by an inning and 52 runs, and Sehwag became the first triple centurion for India.
2. Virender Sehwag – 254 vs Pakistan in January 2006
Sehwag scored his second score of 200 or more in January 2006, and it also came against Pakistan in Lahore. It was the first test of India’s last tour of Pakistan in 2006. Pakistan made 679-7 in the first inning, and India also replied strongly with a 410-run opening stand. Sehwag made 254 off 247 balls, with 47 fours and one six, and India were at 410/1 when the game ended in a draw.
3. Virender Sehwag – 319 vs South Africa in March 2008
Sehwag crossed the 200-run mark in his test career for the third time in March 2008 against South Africa in Chennai. It was the first test of the three-match series. South Africa made 540 in the first inning, and India responded with 627. Sehwag made a 278-ball 300 and scored 319 runs. It was his second triple hundred, and he became only the fourth player to do so. The match ended in a draw.
2. Virender Sehwag – 201 not out vs Sri Lanka in July 2008
The former opener scored his second double hundred in July–August 2008 against Sri Lanka in Galle. It was the second test of the Indian tour of Sri Lanka. India scored 329 runs in the first inning, and Sehwag alone scored 201 of those. He also scored 50 runs in the second inning. India won that game by 170 runs.
1. Virender Sehwag – 293 vs Sri Lanka in December 2009
Sehwag scored his fifth and last double century in Brabourne against Sri Lanka in December 2009. It was the final game of the three-test series. Batting first, Sri Lanka made 393 runs, and India replied with 726/9 and declared the inning with 333 runs. Sehwag made 293 off 254 with 40 fours and seven sixes. He missed his third triple century by just seven runs. After Don Bradman, Sehwag is the only player with two triple centuries and one score of 290 or more. India won that test by an inning and 24 runs.
