T20 World Cup: The eighth edition of the WT20 is just a few weeks away from now. Australia is hosting this ICC event, which will start next month on October 16. This is the first time that the defending champions will host the tournament at their home. Hence, it will be a great opportunity for Australia to make it two on the trot.
In Australia, 16 teams will compete in 45 matches on seven different venues. The first round of the competition will see eight teams competing for the remaining four places in the “Super 12”. On the other hand, the top eight ranked teams have qualified for the “Super 12” by default. However, one team that will play in the qualifier is Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe Squad for T20 World Cup
One of the most promising teams in the early 2000s, Zimbabwe, will go through the qualifying round in the upcoming tournament. The African nation announced their 15-member squad on September 15. Craig Ervine will lead the side in the mega event in Australia. The veteran players, like Wellington Masakadza and Tendai Chatara, have also returned to the squad after recovering from injury.
Thus, their presence will surely boost the confidence of the team. Notably, skipper Ervine himself missed the three-match ODI series against India at home and the Australian tour due to injury. But he made it in time. His leadership qualities can certainly work in his team’s favor.
The likes of Ryan Burl, Sikander Raza and Sean Williams have performed really well with both bat and ball in the last few series. This will provide Zimbabwe with a much-needed balance in both batting and bowling. The team looks strong with the availability of 5-6 all-rounders in the team. Now, they need to perform on the grand stage.
Squad: Craig Ervine (c), Craig Burl, Regis Chakabva (wk), Sikandar Raza, Tendai Chatara, Bradley Evans, Luke Jongwe, Clive Madande (wk), Wessly Madhevere, Wellington Masakadza, Tony Munyonga, Sean Williams, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Shumba Milton.
Group and Schedule for Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe will be playing three matches in the qualification round. They are placed in Group B for the first round of the tournament. The other teams in their group are Ireland, the West Indies, and Scotland. Only the top two teams will make it to the “super 12” from this group. Thus, it becomes a bit difficult because all four teams have played some tough cricket recently. Zimbabwe will play their first match of the tournament against Ireland on October 17 at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart.
Match | Venue | Date | Day | Time |
Zimbabwe vs Ireland | Bellerive Oval, Hobart | October 17 | Monday | 1:30 PM |
West Indies vs Zimbabwe | Bellerive Oval, Hobart | October 19 | Wednesday | 1:30 PM |

Batsmen record in T20 World Cup history (Current Squad)
This team has got some of the players that have already played in the World Cup before. Thus, they know the pressure during a World Cup game. That might help the team. Burl, Raza, and Williams will hold the key in the batting order. As they have already played in the 2016 edition. However, Zimbabwe was not part of the 2021 WT20 in the UAE.
