T20 World Cup 2022: We are just one week away from witnessing the biggest cricket event. It is the T20 World Cup, which will start on October 16 in Australia. Top eight teams have already qualified, while for four more spots, eight other teams will compete for qualification. All teams are preparing for the big event, and some teams have already announced their squads.
The two-time champions, West Indies, have also announced their 15-member squad for the tournament on Wednesday. However, they will be playing for a place in the “Super 12”. But it doesn’t mean that they are a weaker team in the competition. West Indies is the only team in history to have won the T20 World Cup twice. That shows how they come and perform at the ICC event.
West Indies Squad for T20 World Cup 2022
The squad announced has seen some surprises, with some big names missing the chance to feature in the team. Nicholas Pooran will lead the side in the tournament. Evin Lewis, the explosive opener, has returned to the team after missing the last T20 World Cup in the UAE. Yannic Cariah and Raymon Reifer have got their maiden call-ups for the West Indies in T20Is.
Another name that is making a comeback is Johnson Charles, who played his last T20I in 2016. Big names, including Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Chris Gayle, and Carlos Braithwaite, have been dropped from the squad. The pace-bowling department is looking better with the likes of Jason Holder, Sheldon Cottrell, Obed McCoy, Alzarri Joseph, and Odean Smith. Rovman Powell will assist Pooran as the vice-captain.

Batsmen record in T20 World Cup history (Current Squad)
West Indies have two T20 World Cup titles but have had a mixed record in the tournament’s history. In some editions, they have failed badly, while in others they have dominated everyone. However, in the last T20 World Cup in UAE, they lost four out of five games and couldn’t qualify for the next round. This time, they will try to perform better with almost a new set of players. But still, there are some guys who know the pressure of batting in such a big tournament.
