T20 World Cup 2022: Finally, the wait is over as the WT20 is all set to start in Australia within a few weeks’ time. The T20 World Cup 2022 will start on October 16 with a game between Sri Lanka and Namibia. The top 16 teams will take part in the upcoming event, and the top four teams will be decided after the conclusion of “Super 12”.
With the event coming near, every team has announced their squads for the T20 World Cup. The last team to announce their team was the last edition’s runners-up, New Zealand. On Tuesday, the Black Caps named their 15-member squad that will compete in the ICC event in 2022. So let’s check the complete details.
New Zealand Squad for T20 World Cup
The Black Caps have gone with the same combination that featured in the last ICC event in 2021. The only two new players on the team are Michael Bracewell and Finn Allen. These two will play in their maiden senior world cup events. Kane Williamson is back to his normal role and will lead the side.
While pacer Adam Milne, who suffered an injury during the IPL 2022, has returned to the team. He has completed his rehab and is ready to go. But Kyle Jamieson is still recovering from his injury. Thus, he doesn’t make it to the team. The rest of the players played in the WT20 in the UAE last year.
Martin Guptill will play in his seventh consecutive T20 world cup, the most by a New Zealander. Leg spinner Todd Astle and wicket-keeper Tim Seifert have been dropped. Devon Conway will open the innings with Guptill and will also play as a wicket-keeper. Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson will do the pace-bowling duties. James Neesham, Daryl Mitchell, and Mitchell Santer are the available all-rounders in the team.
Squad for WT20: Kane Williamson (c), Martin Guptill, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway (wk), Glenn Phillips, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, Finn Allen, Tim Southee, Daryl Mitchell, Ish Sodhi.
Group and Schedule for New Zealand
On Saturday, October 22, New Zealand will open their tournament against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground. This will be the rematch of the last WT20 final in the UAE, which New Zealand lost. The Black Caps are placed in “Group 1”, which is the most difficult of two groups. They are in this group along with Australia, England, Afghanistan, and two qualifying teams. Two teams from this group will qualify for the semi-finals.
