The 2022 T20 World Cup is all set to start within a month’s time. A total of 16 top cricket-playing nations will compete in the tournament to get their hands on the World Champions title. Interestingly, Australia will defend their championship at home. Eight teams, divided into two groups of four, will compete in the first round of the tournament.
The top two teams from each group then advance to the “super 12” of the competition to join the already qualified eight teams. All the groups and schedule have been decided, and all nations have announced their squads for the upcoming ICC event. Ireland were the latest team to announce their squad.
Ireland Squad for T20 World Cup
On Tuesday, the Irish cricket team announced their 15-member squad for the WT20 in Australia. Andrew Balbirnie will be leading the team in the competition. The squad is a mix of young and experienced players. The likes of Paul Stirling, George Dockrell, and skipper Balbirnie will be the core of the team, with their experience.
On the other hand, Harry Tector will provide them with the required firepower in the batting order. However, the veteran Andy McBrine missed out after a decline in form. Gareth Delany will do the spinning job along with Dockrell. Simi Singh, Curtis Campher and Fionn Hand will be the all-rounders in the team.
Lorcan Tucker and Stephen Doheny are the two wicket-keepers in the side. Ireland have got four front-line pacers as well. All in all, they have got a good side to field in the competition.
Squad: Andrew Balbirnie (c), Mark Adair, Paul Stirling, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Stephen Doheny (wk), Gareth Delany, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Fionn Hand, Josh Little, Conor Olphert, Simi Singh, Barry McCarthy, Harry Tector, Craig Young.
