It is just two days until the start of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. It will see the top 16 teams from around the world playing for the most prestigious title in the game. The defending champions, Australia, will defend their crown at home. All teams are gearing up for the mega event. Every nation has picked the best possible team for the ICC event.
Thus, the upcoming World Cup will surely be one of the most competitive ones. Because no one can predict who will win the title. It is because all the teams look strong. But for a strong team, you need a strong leader. In this article, we will talk about the captains of the side for each team.
1. Aaron Finch (Australia)
The man who led Australia to their maiden T20 World title in 2021, in the UAE, will be in action once again. Aaron Finch, who is likely to play his last T20 World Cup, would like to lead Australia to another title. Finch holds the record for leading a team in most matches in history. He has led Australia in 72 games and won 39, while 31 losses and two games ended with a no-result.
2. Rohit Sharma (India)
India is definitely among the favorites to win the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. One of the prime reasons behind that is skipper Rohit Sharma. The Men in Blue have achieved a huge success in the shorter format under his captaincy. Thus, the fans will hope he can continue that success at the marquee event as well. Rohit has led India in 45 T20Is and has 35 wins and 10 defeats under his belt.
3. Jos Buttler (England)
Another team that has an in-form captain is England. Jos Buttler is among the top batters in the shorter format at the moment. And being an opener for the team, he always gives a great start. That is what England will look like in the coming tournament. Buttler was the only centurion in the last edition in UAE. Since then, he has scored runs everywhere, including the IPL 2022. Buttler has led England in 13 matches and has 7 wins and 6 defeats so far.
4. Babar Azam (Pakistan)
Well, if we name one consistent batter in the world across all three formats, it’s Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. The 27-year-old ended the last tournament as the highest run-getter in the UAE. He scored 303 runs in six innings at an average and strike rate of 60.60 and 126.25, including four half-centuries. He led his team to the semi-finals. Babar would like to try and get more success this time around. He has led his team in 57 T20Is and won 35 of those and lost 18 of those.
5. Kane Williamson (New Zealand)
Speaking of the experienced captains in the upcoming tournament. One name comes on the top and he is New Zealand’s skipper, Kane Williamson. The 32-year-old led the Black Caps to the finals of the last edition in the UAE. However, they were unfortunate and lost to Australia. But under his leadership, New Zealand has achieved tremendous success in recent times across all formats. Williamson has led his country in 62 T20Is and won 32 games with 29 losses and one tie.
