With so many leagues being played around the world, competitive cricket has grown enormously. The Big Bash League is also one such league that brings some of the biggest stars together. Sydney Thunder (209/8) vs Melbourne Renegades in 2020
The second highest BBL score by the Sydney Thunder came in the 2020 season. It is registered against the Melbourne Renegades at the Canberra stadium. It was the Renegades that won the toss and decided to bowl first. But their bowlers couldn’t take early breaks. As a result, the Thunder had a few good partnerships in the middle. All four of their top batters hit in the 30s and 40s.
Eventually they reached their third highest total of 209/8 in 20 overs. In reply, the Renegades couldn’t get going in the chase and kept losing wickets in the middle. Only two batters went past the 15-run mark. Skipper Aaron Finch was the highest run-scorer with 20 runs. The Renegades got all out for just 80 runs in 12.2 overs, and the Thunder won the game by 129 runs.
Sydney Thunder (219/7) vs Melbourne Stars in 2020
Both the second- and third-highest totals for the Sydney Thunder came in the 2020 season. The second-highest total came against the Melbourne Stars in Canberra. After winning the toss, the Stars chose to bowl first. In the first inning, the Thunder got off to a good start with a partnership of 89 runs in just 7.2 overs. They had a few small partnerships in the middle.
Alex Hales made a 21-ball half-century and scored 79 off just 31 balls, with 8 fours and 5 sixes. Skipper Callum Ferguson scored 51 off 33 balls. As a result, the Thunder reached their second-highest total. They made 219/7 in their first innings. In reply, the Stars had some struggles during their batting, which resulted in 144 all out in 19.5 overs. Thus, the Thunder won the game by 75 runs in the end.
Sydney Thunder (232/5) vs Sydney Sixers in 2021
The highest and second highest BBL totals came in the 2021 season. It was the game between the Sydney Thunder and the Sydney Sixers at the Adelaide Oval. The Sixers won the toss and opted to bowl first. It was only Alex Hales who blew away the opposition bowlers in the first innings. He scored a 51-ball century and made 110 off 56 balls, with nine fours and eight sixes.
Callum Ferguson (42), Sam Billings (33) and Ben Cutting (33) also made significant contributions. As a result, the Thunder made their highest BBL total of 232/5 in 20 overs. In response, the Sixers also tried hard to reach the score but only managed 186/5 in their chase and lost the game by 46 runs. This was also the second highest BBL score ever by any team.
