Sydney Sixers: The T20 format is the most unpredictable in the game of cricket. Because you never know who will win or lose until the very last second. Teams that are strong can lose badly, and weaker teams can upset bigger opponents. Here we will talk about one of the most successful teams in the history of the Big Bash League.
The Sydney Sixers are only the second team in BBL history to have won more than two titles. They won the championship in 2011, 2019, and 2020, including the inaugural season. But despite such amazing records, this team has had some bad days. And in this article, we will cover the list of the lowest BBL scores for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League.
3. Sydney Sixers (92 all out) vs Perth Scorchers in 2022
The biggest rivalry in the BBL is between the Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Sixers. These two teams have met in five BBL finals, with the Scorchers winning three and the Sixers winning two. And the third lowest BBL score for the Sixers is against the Scorchers, which came in the 2021 season. And it came in the final of the 2021 season, when the Scorchers won their fourth BBL title overall.
Batting first, the Scorchers posted a competitive total of 171/6 in their 20 overs. Skipper Ashton Turner (54 off 35) and Laurie Evans (76* off 41) were the top scorers. In reply, the Stars couldn’t get going in their innings and kept losing wickets. Only Daniel Hughes (42) batted for a while. Eventually, the whole team got dismissed for 92 runs in 16.2 overs and lost the final by 79 runs.
2. Sydney Sixers (76 all out) vs Sydney Thunder in 2020
The second lowest BBL total for the three-time champion Sydney Stars came in 2020. It was the 42nd game of the tournament against the Sydney Thunder at the SCG. The Thunder won the toss and chose to bat first, but that decision went horribly wrong for them. They had a nightmare start, losing their first six wickets for just 26 runs in 7.5 overs.
However, after that, they recovered with a 45-run partnership for the seventh wicket. But then they lost their four wickets for the next five runs. The Stars got all out for 76 runs in 15.5 overs and registered their second-lowest BBL total. Chasing the target, the Thunders were at 28/2 in 5.3 overs when the rain stopped the play. But the Thunders were ahead by four runs of the D/L target. Thus, they won the game by four runs.
1. Sydney Sixers (74 all out) vs Melbourne Stars in 2019
The lowest total in the Big Bash for the three-time winners came in the 2019 season. It is registered against the Melbourne Stars at the MCG. The Sydney Sixers won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first, the Stars had some struggles in their batting departments. But it was skipper Glenn Maxwell who held the innings together. He made 82 off 43 to help his team reach a total of 168/6 in 20 overs.
In response, the Sixers had a totally contrasting batting performance in their chase. They didn’t have a great start and lost four wickets in the powerplay. But even after that, the Stars couldn’t stop the wicket from falling. In the end, they got dismissed for 74 runs in 13.4 overs and lost the game by 94 runs because it was their lowest BBL score.
