The 2023 ODI World Cup is going to be epic because it will be played in India, where the sport is followed by billions of people. It already reflected after the ticket sale started, and all the seats were booked in a short span of time. The tournament will begin on October 5 in Ahmedabad, when England will take on New Zealand.
This is a virtual rematch of the last edition’s final. Top ten teams will take part in it to become the world champions. This tournament will have a total of 48 games, including the final on November 19. Every team will play nine matches against other teams in the group stage, and the top four will qualify for the semi-finals.
With not much time left before the start of the World Cup, the last date to announce the squad is September 15. Some teams have already announced their squads, while others will do so soon. The South African Cricket Board has announced its 15-member squad for the mega event on September 5.
ODI World Cup 2023 South Africa Squad
South Africa announced a 15-member squad on Tuesday for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Temba Bavuma will be leading the team. Eight of the 15 members will appear on the World Cup stage for the very first time. The top order will have veteran keeper Quinton de Kock, along with Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram.
Notably, De Kock has confirmed that he will retire from ODIs after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup. So we will see the last ODI appearance for one of the finest modern-day batters. Marco Jansen is the specialist all-rounder in the squad, while Heinrich Klaasen is the backup keeper.
David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen will be doing finishing jobs. The spin department has Keshav Maharaja and Tabraiz Shamsi. The pace attack will be led by Kagiso Rabada, along with Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, and Sisanda Magala. Gerald Coetzee, who has played only two ODIs in his career, is also part of the squad.
