It has become the go-to option for any cricket-playing nation to introduce its own T20 cricket tournament. Since the inception of the Indian Premier League, other countries have also taken a leap from the book and developed their own T20 leagues. The likes of the CPL, BBL, BPL, PSL, ILT20, and LPL are some prime examples of this, and every such tournament has also helped the nation groom more local talents.
Thus, to promote the sport of cricket, the United States has also decided to launch its first-of-its-kind cricket tournament in the country and introduce the Major Cricket League to the world. This league will see six teams play in its first season, which will start on July 13 (Thursday). There will be 19 matches in total, which will take place in two venues: Grand Prairie Stadium and Church Street Park.
Seattle Orcas: Squad and Coaching Staff
Seattle Orcas have not announced the captain of their team so far. But they have hired an experienced coaching staff for the team. Former Indian cricketer Pravin Amre is the head coach of the team. Ross Taylor and Johan Botha will assist him as batting and bowling coaches. The franchise has made a bold decision, as they haven’t picked any specialist batters but have picked some power-hitting all-rounders for their squad.
One of the biggest names to join the team is South African star wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock, who is one of the front-runners to become the captain. Then, they have picked Australia’s Mitchell Marsh to bat in the top order, who can also roll his arm around. One of the best performers in the last 12 months or so, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, is also part of the team. Sri Lankan white-ball skipper Dasun Shanaka is also a big name, along with South Africa’s Wayne Parnell. The bowling is a bit inexperienced, which might be the reason that they have invested heavily in all-rounders.
Squad: Shehan Jayasuriya, Nauman Anwar, Harmeet Singh, Cameron Gannon, Dasun Shanaka, Quinton de Kock, Matthew Tromp, Andrew Tye, Aaron Jones, Angelo Perera, Shubham Ranjane, Mitchell Marsh, Sikandar Raza, Phani Simhadri, Wayne Parnell
