After some thrillers at the weekend, the IPL has moved to another week. And the first match of the week will be between two powerhouses. The Rajasthan Royals will lock horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders. The match will start at 7:30 pm at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Both teams are coming off losses in their last matches.
They are eager to get a win to move up the points table. It makes this encounter more entertaining as both teams will give everything to get a win. Both teams have won three matches each and have six points. But in KKR’s case, they have three losses under their belt. So let’s check out the complete match details and possible XI for both teams.
RR vs KKR: Match Preview and Prediction
Kolkata Knight Riders
Having lost their last two matches, KKR are desperate to win this match against RR. But, adding to their woes, KKR has never won any IPL match at this ground. If we start from the top, the team is struggling with the form of their openers. They have tried Ajinkya Rahane, but he hasn’t scored much. Regular opener Venkatesh Iyer has also scored just 103 runs in five matches. The middle-order is also struggling to make big scores, as only Andre Russell has scored the most (179 runs) for KKR this season.
Bowling in the powerplay has looked good, led by Umesh Yadav, but the biggest worry is in the final overs. KKR has leaked runs at over 10 per over at the end. Narine has been economical in the middle, but Chakravarthy has also leaked runs. Overall, they started the season with a few wins, but after that, they have struggled for consistency.
Probably XI: Aaron Finch, Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer (C), Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, Sheldon Jackson (Wk), Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, Aman Khan, Varun Chakravarthy.
Sanju Samson and his team are also struggling with the same kind of issue. Jos Buttler has been fantastic at the top of the order and is holding the “Orange Cap”. But after that, the team is missing consistency in the batting. Skipper Samson himself is struggling to score runs. Then Shimron Hetmyer has also scored quick runs, but Riyan Parag has been ordinary. It is looking like a two-man batting order at the moment.
Just like KKR, Rajasthan has been found guilty of conceding big runs at the end. Yuzvendra Chahal has been phenomenal in the middle and Trent Boult is another reliable bowler but after them the team has struggled. Boult was not part of the last match, and they lost that match. However, he will be back in the match against KKR, but they still have to look into other issues as well.
Probably XI: Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (C & Wk), Rassie van der Dussen, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, James Neesham, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Sen, Prasidh Krishna.
RR vs KKR Match, Pitch and Toss Update
The Braboune Stadium is a high-scoring ground. The average score here is around 175+. But it provides help to everyone. The pacer will get help at the start, and the spinner will come into play later in the game. Batsmen can trust the bounce and play their shots from the crease. Overall, it is a complete pitch that offers help to everyone. However, dew might come into play and bowlers will find it hard to grip the ball in the second innings. The toss will be crucial for both teams. And the team winning the toss will go for the chase. Toss might be the another factor for the win. In last seven matches on this pitch, three have been won batting first, and the rest four batting second.
RR vs KKR Head to Head Stats
Both teams have met a total of 25 times in the history of the IPL. But KKR is marginally ahead in terms of wins. So far, the Kolkata Knight Riders have won 13 matches, as compared to RR’s 11 wins, and one match ended with no result. But it has been a complete dominance since 2018, in last nine matches, KKR has won seven.
IPL 2022: RR vs KKR: Players to watch out for
Jos Buttler will once again be the player to watch out for. In the last match as well, he scored a quick half-century against GT. The swashbuckling opener has scored 272 runs in five innings and is leading the race for the “Orange Cap”.
Yuzvendra Chahal has done a tremendous job so far for RR this season. He has not only picked wickets, but he has also restricted batsmen from scoring runs as well. The leg-spinner had 12 wickets in five matches and has the “Purple Cap” for this season.
Andre Russell has been a consistent performer for KKR over the years. And that’s what he has shown this season as well. The all-rounder is the highest run-scorer for KKR. Russel has scored 179 runs in six matches and has five wickets to go with that.
Pat Cummins hasn’t been at his best in terms of bowling form. But he is a vital player for KKR with both the bat and the ball. He has scored 63 runs so far, including a 14-ball half-century, and has taken three wickets. Skipper must be hoping him to come good with ball as well.
IPL 2022: Predicted 11 team of the match Prediction
Wicket-keeper: Jos Buttler (RR), Sanju Samson (RR)
Batsmen: Shreyas Iyer (KKR), Shimron Hetmyer (RR), Nitish Rana (KKR), Devdutt Padikkal (RR)
All-rounders: Andre Russell (KKR), Pat Cummins (KKR)
Bowlers: Sunil Narine (KKR), Yuzvendra Chahal (RR), K Sen (RR)
Tips: Andre Russell will be the captain of the team. Jos Buttler or Sanju Samson will be the vice-captain. Both teams have firepower in their batting departments, but KKR has an all-round bowling attack. So we will back KKR to win the match. However, the team winning the toss might win the game as well.
