West Indies were only the fourth team to play the sport of cricket in the world. They made their ODI debut on September 5, 1973, against England. It kicked off the journey of the most fierce team of that era. West Indies dominated world cricket for almost two decades and were the first team to become World Champions in 1975.
West Indies didn’t stop their they won back-to-back World Cups in 1975 and 1979 and made to their third consecutive final in 1983. The Caribbean team is one of three teams to win multiple World Cups. They have also won the Champions Trophy in 2004 and ended as runner-up in 2006. West Indies made it to the top of the ODI team rankings for the first time on June 1, 1981.

- Desmond Haynes holds the record for the most runs in a debut game. Haynes made his ODI debut in February 1978 against Australia and scored 148 runs.
- Chris Gayle has hit the second-most sixes in his ODI career. He has smashed 331 sixes in 301 ODIs.
- Viv Richards holds the record for the highest percentage of runs in a completed ODI inning by a batter. He scored 69.48% of runs when he made 189* against England in 1984, and the team made 272/9.
- Viv Richards’ 6/41 is the second-best bowling figure by a captain in an ODI game.
- Fidel Edwards’ 6/22 is the second-best bowling figure by a debutant in an ODI game. He played his first game against Zimbabwe in November 2003.
- Viv Richards holds the record for the best all-round performance in an ODI game. He scored 119 and picked up 5/41 against New Zealand in 1987 and is the only player to take a fifer after scoring a century.
- The pair of Marlon Samuels and Chris Gayle holds the record for the highest ODI partnership, which came for the second wicket against Zimbabwe in the 2015 World Cup. Both batters added 372 runs.
- Shai Hope and John Campbell hold the record for the highest opening partnership of 365 runs, which came against Ireland in May 2019.
