Pakistan Records in ODI

Pakistan made their ODI debut in February 1973 against New Zealand. After India, they became only the second team to play the 50-over cricket. Pakistan is a regular team in this format, which plays a lot of ODI matches every year. They have also found success in big tournaments. Pakistan has played all 12 editions of the ODI World Cup to take place until now.

They have won the 1992 edition under the leadership of Imran Khan. Apart from that, Sarfaraz Ahmed led Pakistan to their maiden win of Champions Trophy in 2017 beating archrivals in the final. Apart from this, they have played four semi-finals and one final in World Cup and three semi-finals in Champions Trophy. Pakistan became the No.1 ranked ODI team for the first time on December 1, 1990.

Pakistan’s record in ODI Cricket (Team Records)

  • Pakistan holds the record of highest average per wicket in an ODI inning. They made 399/1, which is their highest ODI score where the average for wicket was 399.
  • Pakistan holds the record of the joint second biggest ODI winning streak of 12 matches. They registered in between 18 November 2007 to 8 June 2008.
  • There have been a few occasions when both openers scored a century in an ODI inning. Pakistan recorded the first ever win in such chase in February 1990 against Sri Lanka.
  • There have been only five occasions when all ten out of 11 players scored in double digits. One of them was recorded by Pakistan in October 1998 against West Indies, but it came in a losing cause.
  • There are a few unwanted records as well for Pakistan. The record for the most extras in a game belongs to Pakistan. In fact, they gave away 59 runs as extras on two occasions. One against West Indies in January 1989 and the second time against Scotland in May 1999.
  • Pakistan holds the record for second-biggest opening stand of 304 runs. It was registered by Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman against Zimbabwe in July 2018.
  • The second-highest tenth wicket partnership of 103 were registered by the pair of Mohammad Amir and Saeed Ajmal against New Zealand in November 2009.

Pakistan’s Record in ODI Cricket (Players Records)

  • Babar Azam is the only player who has scored three consecutive ODI centuries twice in his career. He scored first in 2016 and repeated this feat in 2022.
  • Shahid Afridi is the youngest player to score an ODI century. He scored his maiden hundred at an average of 16 years and 217 days.
  • Legendary batter Javed Miandad holds the record for most consecutive ODI half-centuries. He scored nine 50-plus scores on the trot from March 24, 1987 to October 8, 1987. Imam-ul-Haq is the second of this list with seven consecutive 50-plus ODI scores.
  • Sarfaraz Ahmed has got out for a duck once only even after playing more than 100 ODIs, which is the second best all-time of fewest ducks in career.
  • Shahid Afridi holds the record for most ODI sixes in his career. He smashed 351 sixes in his ODI career.
  • Fakhar Zaman is the fastest batter to complete 1000 ODI runs. He did it in just 18 innings.
  • Babar Azam is the fastest batter to complete 5000 ODI runs. He completed it in just 97 innings.
  • Wasim Akram was the first bowler to take 500 or more ODI wickets. He took 502 wickets in his career.
  • Shahid Afridi has registered the second-best ODI figure of 7/12 in July 2013 against West Indies.
  • Saqlain Mushtaq holds the record for most ODI wickets in a calendar year. He took 69 wickets n 1997 and broke his own record of 65 wickets in 1996.
  • Waqar Younis holds the record for most five-wicket hauls in ODIs. He took 13 fifers in his career, which is three more than second ranked Muralitharan. Waqar’s 7/36 is the best figure by a captain in ODI.

Pakistan ODI Records vs Other Teams

After Australia and India, the third team to win over 500 ODIs in the history is Pakistan. They achieved this record recently and are one of the most successful teams in the history. Apart from one of two countries, Pakistan has a dominating record against other countries including India.
