Royal Challengers Bangalore have been one of the most followed franchises among the fans in the Indian Premier League. They haven’t won any IPL tournament until now, but their fan base is massive as compared to other IPL teams. They have played three IPL finals but have yet to get their hands on the IPL trophy. Despite all this, RCB holds a number of amazing records in the league.
There are a few records by this team that are impossible to break for other teams. RCB has had some legends of the game in their squad over the years. The likes of Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Muttiah Muralitharan, Jacques Kallis, Kevin Pietersen, Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, and AB De Villiers have played for this team in the past. Now, it has Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Faf Du Plessis, and a few more superstars. Although the trophy cabinet for RCB is still empty, their record books are large.
1. Highest IPL total and Highest Individual score
RCB holds the record for the highest IPL total in the history. In fact, they have scored both the highest IPL scores in the history so far. The highest came against Pune Warriors in 2013 season. This game saw complete carnage from the bat of Chris Gayle, who smashed the highest individual IPL score. He made an unbeaten 175 off just 65 balls. RCB scored a mammoth total of 263/5 in 20 overs. In reply, PWI scored 133/9 and lost the game by 130 runs. Gayle’s 175 (not out) is still the highest score by a batter, which looks unbreakable.
2. Biggest IPL Partnership
Just like the highest team total, RCB also holds the highest partnership in IPL history. Both of the biggest IPL partnerships came between Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. The highest came in the 2016 season, when the RCB took on the Gujarat Lions in Bengaluru. RCB scored a massive score of 248/3, with Virat and De Villiers adding 229 runs for the second wicket. Virat scored 109 off 55, while De Villiers made 129* off 52. The second highest IPL stand of 215* came in 2015 for RCB against Mumbai by the same pair.
3. Most Centuries in IPL
RCB has been a batting-heavy team because of the availability of some of the most destructive batters in their lineup. Thus, playing a big and quick knocks become regular. This is why RCB holds the record for the most centuries in IPL history. A total of 15 IPL hundreds have been scored by RCB batters, which is the record. Out of 1Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli have five centuries each out of 15, while AB de Villiers has two. Manish Pandey, Devdutt Padikkal, and Rajat Patidar scored the other three. PBKS and RR come in second with 13 IPL centuries each.
4. Most Runs in an IPL season by a Batter
When Virat Kohli is in full flow, no one can match the skills that he brings to the table. He was at his absolute best in the 2016 IPL season and broke multiple records with his performance. In that season, he wrote history when he scored a total of 973 runs in 16 innings and took his team to the final. Although, RCB lost the final to Sunrisers Hyderabad, Virat took that season to another level. He scored 973 runs at an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03. Virat also smashed four centuries and seven half-centuries in that season.
5. Most Sixes by a batter in an Inning
Not just runs and centuries, the record for most sixes hit in an IPL inning also belongs to an RCB batter. It is registered under the name of Chris Gayle, who took Pune Warriors apart in the 2016 season and slammed the highest IPL individual score of 175 not out. He smashed 17 sixes in that inning, which is the most by anyone in an inning. Out of his 175 runs, he scored 154 by boundary to play one of the most destructive T20 innings.
