Delhi Capitals have been one of the oldest franchises in the Indian Premier League. They made their debut in the inaugural season of 2008. Although they are yet to win a championship, they have been one of the better performers in the league of late. DC has played in the IPL final once in 2020; unfortunately, they lost it to Mumbai Indians.
Although they haven’t won the league until now, they have had some impressive records in this cash-rich league. And here, we will focus on some of the exciting and unwanted records held by the Delhi Capitals in the history of the IPL. So let’s check below.
1. Most times dismissed below 100
It might sound strange, but this unwanted record has been registered under the name of the Delhi Capitals. DC is the only team in the IPL to have dismissed below the 100-run mark the most times. Delhi has registered 10 scores below 100 in a game, which is a lot in a T20 format. They have registered 66, 67, 80, 83, 84, 87, 95, 95, 98, and 99 in the IPL so far. Thus, DC will not like to have this record for too long.
2. Suffering Biggest IPL defeat
Well, not the biggest win, but DC has suffered the biggest defeat in the IPL’s history. It came in 2017 season against Mumbai Indians in Delhi. It was the 45th game of the tournament. Batting first, MI scored 212/3 in their first inning. Lendl Simmons (66 off 43) and Kieron Pollard (63* off 35) made half-centuries. In reply, Delhi Capitals had a horrific batting performance and were dismissed for just 66 runs in 13.4 overs. They suffered the IPL’s biggest defeat by 146 runs, which is still a record.
3. Lowest First-inning Total
Delhi Capitals have a few unwanted records. One of those is the lowest total in the first inning of an IPL game. The lowest total overall of 49 all out belongs to Royal Challengers Bangalore. But when it comes to the first inning, DC has this weird record. It came in the 2017 season in Mohali against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). Batting first, DC got dismissed for 67 runs in 17.1 overs. In reply, Punjab made 68 runs in 7.5 overs and won the game with 10 wickets and 73 balls to spare.
4. Highest Score by an Indian left-hander
DC star wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant holds the record for the highest score by an Indian left-hander in the IPL. He smashed an unbeaten 128 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 season. Pant scored 128 runs off 63 balls, with 15 fours and seven sixes to help Delhi score 187/5. Although his century came in a losing cause. SRH scored 191/1 in 18.5 overs to win the game by nine wickets. But Pant’s 128 not out is the highest score by an Indian left-hander.
5. Most dismissal as a Keeper in an IPL edition
Apart from batting power, Rishabh Pant is also known for his good work behind the wickets. Thus, he holds the record for the most dismissals in a single edition of the Indian Premier League. He had a record of 24 dismissals in 16 games during the 2019 season, which included 18 catches and six stumpings. Quinton de Kock with 22 dismissals is at the second place in 2020 season for MI.
