Ravindra Jadeja is arguably one of the best all-rounders in the history of the game. In fact, he is the best all-rounder for India in all three formats of the game and performs consistently. He has proved his worth countless times for India at the highest level. But it was his performance in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League that became the turning point of his career.
Jadeja was part of Shane Warne’s Rajasthan Royals that won the 2008 season. Since then, the journey of the prominent Indian all-rounder has begun. And he has established himself as the best modern-day all-rounder. Jadeja has represented the Rajasthan Royals, Kochi Tuskers, Gujarat Titans, and is currently with the Chennai Super Kings. In his superb IPL career, Jadeja has made a number of records, which we will discuss here in this article.
Records Held by Ravindra Jadeja in IPL
1. Joint-Most runs in a single over (37)
A batting all-rounder or a bowling all-rounder can be found fairly easily, but it is hard to find a genuine all-rounder who contributes equally in both departments. If you are thinking that the primary skill of Ravindra Jadeja is his bowling, then you are wrong. The southpaw holds the record for scoring the joint-most runs in an over in an IPL match. He smashed RCB’s pacer Harshal Patel for 37 runs in an over in 2021 to achieve this rare feat. He equaled Chris Gayle’s record, who scored 37 runs against Parameswaran, for RCB against Kochi Tuskers Kerala back in 2011.
2. Only player with 2500 runs and 130-plus wickets in IPL
There is no better example of an all-rounder if he has delivered some match-winning performances with both the bat and the ball. The stats suggest that Jadeja is the only player in the history of the IPL to complete a rare double with both bat and ball. He is the only player to score over 2500 IPL runs and take 130 or more wickets in the league. Jadeja has played 210 games and scored 2502 runs in 161 innings at an average and strike rate of 26.21 and 127.65, with a best of 62 not out. With the ball, he has taken 132 wickets at 7.60 and a best figure of 5/16.
3. Best Bowling Figure for CSK (5/16)
The star all-rounder is a complete asset for CSK, which is very rare in Indian cricket. Although CSK has a rich history and has had some great bowlers over the years, the best bowling figure for the four-time champion is registered under the name Jadeja. He took 5/16 in his four overs against the Deccan Chargers in the 2012 season in Visakhapatnam.
4. Most four-wickets hauls for CSK
Not just the best bowling figure for CSK, in fact, Jadeja also holds the record for most four-wicket hauls for the franchise in the IPL. Jadeja has taken four wickets or more a total of four times for the four-time champions. His best of 516 came against Deccan in 2012. On the other hand, he has taken four-wicket hauls against RR (4/33) in 2014, against KKR (4/12) in 2014, and against RR (4/11) in 2015.
5. Most IPL games without captaining the side
It is a big thing for a player to play 200 T20 games in a T20 tournament. It can only be done if you are a consistent performer. That’s what Ravindra Jadeja is. Notably, there are only a few IPL players who have played over 200 IPL games, but somewhere in their career, they have captained an IPL team. But Jadeja is the only player who got the captaincy after playing 200 games. His first match as an IPL captain was his 201st game.
