Quetta Gladiators: The Pakistan Super League has become one of the most popular T20 leagues in the cricket world right now. This competition features big names from around the world. That is why it is also among the most competitive cricket tournaments that take place every year. Quetta Gladiators, on the other hand, is one of six teams competing in this tournament.
They had also won the PSL title in 2019, when they beat the Peshawar Zalmi in the finals. Apart from winning, Quetta finished second in the first two seasons of the league in 2016 and 2017. In 2016, they lost to Islamabad United, while in 2017, they lost to Peshawar Zalmi. And in this article, we will cover the list of lowest PSL totals for Quetta in the tournament’s history.
3. Quetta Gladiators (98/9) vs Lahore Qalandars in 2020
The third lowest total by the Quetta Gladiators came in the 2020 season. It was the 21st game of the tournament against Lahore Qalandars at Lahore Stadium. Lahore won the toss and chose to bowl first. Batting first, Quetta had a horrible start with the bat. They lost their first six wickets for just 21 runs in the powerplay. That totally broke the momentum. However, they tried hard to reach the 100-run mark.
But in the end, they only scored 98/9 in 20 overs, which is their third lowest total. Sohail Khan made 32 runs and had the highest score. Interestingly, 15 runs came from extras, which was the third-highest score for their team. In reply, Lahore did tumble a bit, losing both openers for 32 runs. But they didn’t lose another wicket and won the game by scoring 100/2 in 11.35 overs.
2. Quetta Gladiators (90 all out) vs Peshawar Zalmi in 2017
Quetta Gladiators registered their second-lowest total in the PSL during a chase. It came in the 2017 season when they faced Peshawar Zalmi in the final of the tournament at Lahore. Both teams ended the group stage on top and reached the finals of the season. It started with Quetta winning the toss and putting Peshawar to bat first. Batting first, Peshawar found it hard on that pitch and scored a below-par total.
They scored 148/6 in 20 overs, led by Kamran Akmal (40) and skipper Darren Sammy (28*). It wasn’t a good total for the finals of the tournament and looked in favour of Quetta. But what happened next was just incredible for the Peshawar Zalmi. They froze the Quetta batters and prevented them from scoring from the first over. Quetta lost their first five wickets for just 37 runs and got all out for 90 runs in 16.3 overs to lose the final of the season. Peshawar won their maiden PSL title.
1. Quetta Gladiators (73 all out) vs Multan Sultans in 2021
Quetta Gladiators made their lowest PSL total in the 2021 season. It was the game against the Multan Sultans in Abu Dhabi, and Quetta won the toss and chose to bowl first. Multan started well with a 72 runs for the first wicket partnership. Shan Masood led the way with a 73 off 42. In the end, a cameo from Johnson Charles of 24-ball 47 helped Multan reach a competitive total of 183/5 in their 20 overs.
Chasing the target, Quetta had a small partnership for the first wicket of 27 runs. But from 27 for none, they lost their ten wickets for just 46 runs and got all out for 73 runs in 12.1 overs to register their lowest and the PSL’s second lowest total. They lost the game by a massive margin of 110 runs.
