Quetta Gladiators: With so many T20 leagues in the world right now, the Pakistan Super League has made its way through in a short span of time. The PSL came into existence in 2016 and has entertained fans from across the world with six teams. One of their teams that won the competition in 2019 is the Quetta Gladiators. Quetta has always done well in this competition.
They started the PSL with two back-to-back appearances in the finals in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Although, they couldn’t win either of these but then they lifted the PSL title in 2019 season. One of the prime reasons for the success of this team is their consistency. And they have also scored high totals consistently in this competition over the season. 3. Quetta Gladiators (203/8) vs Lahore Qalandars in 2016
Quetta Gladiators have crossed 200 in the PSL five times so far. Their third-highest total came in the 2016 season when they faced the Lahore Qalandars. It was a high-scoring thriller, with Quetta winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. Lahore had a brilliant batting performance with the bat, and their top three batters scored half centuries. Chris Gayle (60), Azhar Ali (61) and Umar Akmal (55*) all contributed to Lahore’s big total of 201/2.
It was a massive total to chase back then, but Quetta made some valuable contributions in the middle. Opener Bismillah Khan made 55 off 30 balls to provide a good start. Kevin Pietersen (34 off 21) and Kumar Sangakkara (37 off 26) also performed well. However, a cameo from Mohammad Nabi (30* off 12) helped Quetta win the game on the final ball of the game. All top four totals for Quetta Gladiators came in the chase, and they are the only PSL team to chase 200+ totals four times in the league. Their second-highest total came against Islamabad United in 2022. It was the game at Lahore Stadium, and Quetta bowled first after winning the toss. Islamabad had a good start with Alex Hales scoring 62 off 38. In the end, Faheem Ashraf scored 55 off 28 balls to help his team reach 199/8.
This game also went to the very last over of the game. Chasing the target, Quetta got off to a good start with an 88-run partnership for the first wicket between Jason Roy and Ahsan Ali (30). Roy scored 54 off 27 balls, with 10 fours and one six. But in the end, skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed helped his team chase down the target in 19.4 overs, and they made 203/5. Sarfaraz scored an unbeaten 50 off 32 balls.
1. Quetta Gladiators (207/3) vs Lahor Qalandars in 2022
Another chase, another big total. Three out of four top totals and chases for the Quetta Gladiators are registered against the Lahore Qalandars. The highest one came in the 2022 season at the Karachi Ground. Quetta won the toss and decided to bowl first. With a 61-run partnership, Lahore got off to a good start. Fakhar Zaman made 70 off 45 balls. In the end, Harry Brook (41* off 17) and David Wiese (22* off 9) helped Lahore reach 204/5.
Chasing the target, Jason Roy provided Quetta the dream start and added 74 runs in first six overs. He scored a 49-ball century and made 116 off 57 balls, with 11 fours and 8 sixes. In the end, James Vince (49* off 38) and Mohammad Nawaz (25* off 12) helped Quetta reach the target in 19.3 overs. They made 207/3 and registered their highest PSL total.
