Peshawar Zalmi: The Pakistan Super League has established itself as one of the most popular T20 leagues in a short period of time. It was inaugurated in 2016 and has successfully hosted seven editions. And speaking of successful teams, Peshawar Zalmi is one of the most consistent teams in PSL history. They are the only team to play in four PSL finals.
They made it to the finals of the league in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021. But unfortunately, they could get their hands on the title only once in 2017. Despite this, they are unquestionably among the top sides when it comes to playing competitive cricket. But as always, every strong team also goes through tough times. And here we will discuss the lowest scores for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL.
3. Peshawar Zalmi (131/9) vs Karachi Kings in 2018
The third lowest PSL total for the Peshawar Zalmi is registered against the Karachi Kings, which came in the 2018 season at the Dubai Cricket Stadium. It was the 7th game of the tournament, and Peshawar chose to bat first after winning the toss. But they lost wickets after almost every ten runs. The highest partnership was 31 runs for the 8th wicket. Although Dwayne Smith played a gutsy inning and kept the scoring rate ticking.
He remained unbeaten on 71 runs off 51 balls, with 4 fours and 5 sixes. But Peshawar could only manage a total of 131/9 in their first innings to register their third lowest total. In reply, Karachi had some contributions in the middle. They reached the target in 19.4 overs with five wickets in hand. Karachi made 135/5 and won the game.
2. Peshawar Zalmi (126 all out) vs Islamabad United in 2016
The second lowest totals for the 2017 PSL winner came in a chase against Islamabad United. It came in the 2016 season, in the third quarterfinal of the tournament at the Dubai Cricket Stadium. It started with Peshawar winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. Islamabad started well with a 108-run partnership for the first wicket. Opener Sharjeel Khan went on to score a brilliant century to help his team reach 176/3 in 20 overs.
He made 117 off 62 balls with 12 fours and 8 sixes. In reply, Peshawar had a horrible batting display with the bat and only two batters crossed the 10-run mark. Apart from Kamran Akmal (45) and skipper Shahid Afridi (38), no other batter reached double digits. As a result, they got all out for 126 runs in 18 overs and lost the game by 50 runs.
1. Peshawar Zalmi (123 all out) vs Multan Sultans in 2020
Peshawar Zalmi registered their lowest total in the PSL against the Multan Sultans. It came in the 2020 season, in the 8th game of the edition at Multan. Peshawar lost the toss and was put to bat first. They lost their opener in the very first over when Tom Banton got out for four runs. Haider Ali (47 off 27) then tried to stick to the crease and add some runs.
But once he got out, the floodgate opened, and the whole team lost their way. Peshawar lost their last five wickets for just 21 runs and got dismissed for their lowest total. They made 123 in 18.3 overs, courtesy of Shohail Tanvir (4/13). In reply, Multan also started poorly, losing the first four wickets for just 47 runs, but they didn’t lose any wickets and made 124/4 in 14.5 overs to win the game.
