PBKS: Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) are one of the most unlucky teams in the Indian Premier League. They are one of the few teams that haven’t won the IPL till date since the very first season. However, they reached the finals in 2013, but they lost that game as well. The biggest issue with them is consistency.
That is the reason for the failure of this team. However, with so many games played in the IPL since 2008, there were times when PBKS failed badly. And in this article, we will discuss such instances. Here we will discuss the list of lowest scores for this team in the history of the Indian Premier League.
3. PBKS (88 all out) vs RCB in 2015
The third lowest total for Punjab Kings came in a chasing situation. It came in the 2015 season against Royal Challengers Banglaore. It was Punjab that won the toss and decided to bowl first. That decision totally backfired on them. Batting first, RCB got a flying start with two big partnerships. Chris Gayle went on to score a brilliant century for them and made 57-ball 117 runs. Thus, RCB made a massive total of 226/3 in their first innings.
It was a huge total and it needed a good start to come anywhere near that target. But Punjab Kings, who bowled badly, also failed with their bats. They lost five wickets for 34 runs in the powerplay. That was enough to lead them to a small total. Eventually, the whole Punjab team got dismissed for just 88 runs in 13.4. As a result, they faced their heaviest defeat by 138 runs.
2. PBKS (88 all out) vs RCB in 2018
After three seasons, history repeated once again. It was the 48th game of the 2018 season against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Indore. RCB won the toss and chose to bowl first. Batting first, Punjab Kings added 36 runs for the first wicket in 4.3 overs. But after that, there was a cluster of wickets for them. Eight out of 11 batters only managed a single digit score for the Punjab Kings in that innings.
Punjab had a horrible day and they got out for 88 runs in 15.1 overs. It was their joint-second lowest total in the Indian Premier League. It wasn’t enough to restrict the strong batting lineup of the Royal Challengers. That is how things went in the second innings. Both RCB openers chased down the target in just 8.1 overs and they won by 10 wickets with 71 balls to spare. Virat Kohli (48 off 28) and Parthiv Patel (40 off 22) added 92 runs in just 8.1 overs.
1. PBKS (73 all out) vs Pune Supergiant in 2017
Punjab have been dismissed for below 80 runs as well, which is their lowest IPL title. It came in the 2017 season against the Rising Pune Supergiant in Pune. This was the 55th game of the tournament and Supergiant won the toss and decided to bat first. Punjab didn’t have a great start and lost their first wicket off the very first ball. After that, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Seven batters couldn’t reach the 10-run mark in their innings. As a result, they got all out for 73 runs in 15.5 overs to register their lowest IPL title. It was always a small total to chase for any team. That is what happened in the next innings. Pune chased down the target in 12 overs and made 78/1. They won the game with nine wickets and 48 balls to spare.
