IPL 2023: Punjab Kings has the worst ratio of qualifying into the top four in the history of the Indian Premier League. In 15 editions of the IPL, they have made it to the playoffs only twice. The best they had was in the 2014 season, when PBKS ended as runners-up under the leadership of Glenn Maxwell. But since then, they haven’t qualified for the playoffs.
But now they will surely look to end the trophy drought in the next edition of the IPL. For that reason, the franchise has made some big moves in the recently concluded IPL auction 2023. They made the biggest purchase when they acquired Sam Curran for a price of INR 18.5 crore, making him the costliest player in IPL history.
Best Bowlers for Punjab Kings for IPL 2023
The Punjab Kings have picked some good bowlers in the auction. They already have the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada in the team. So let’s check out the best bowling options for the franchise for the upcoming season.
5. Rishi Dhawan
Rishi Dhawan, a veteran Indian pacer and one of the most consistent performers on the Indian domestic circuit, will return to Punjab Kings for his sixth season. He was given a few games in the last season and did pretty well. He took 6 wickets in six games for them. Rishi is a street-smart bowler who is known for changeups and slower ones. He will be a bowler to look for in the next edition.
4. Rahul Chahar
Rahul Chahar was the pick of the bowler for Punjab Kings in the last season. He took 14 wickets in 13 games at an economy rate of 7.71 in 2022. Chahar is their first choice spinner. He did a decent job of restricting the batter in the middle overs and also took crucial wickets. PBKS needs him to do well if they are looking to end their trophy drought in the next edition.
3. Sam Curran
English star all-rounder Sam Curran was signed by PBKS for a staggering price of INR 18.5 crore, which shows how badly the franchise needed him. Curran was the “Player of the Tournament” in the 2022 World Cup and was one of the prime reasons for England’s success. He is a smart bowler who can also contribute with the bat. Curran made his IPL debut in 2019 for PBKS and took 10 wickets in nine games. But after that, he was released, and now he is back with his first team. Thus, PBKS would like him to repay the faith that Punjab has shown in him.
2. Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh has been part of PBKS since 2019. But he made his mark after the 2021 season and did well in the 2022 season as well. As a result, he earned his first call for the Indian team. And now he is a key bowler for India in the shorter format. Arshdeep can swing the ball both ways, and his left-arm angle makes him a difficult bowler to face. He was the highest wicket-taker for India in the T20 World Cup 2022, with 9 wickets in six games.
1. Kagiso Rabada
Kagiso Rabada will undoubtedly be at the top of any list of top pacers in all three formats of modern-day cricket. The South African speedster is the real strength of any bowling attack in the world. He knows how to control the situation. Rabada offers his team attacking bowling options. Rabada was the highest wicket-taker for PBKS in the last season, with 23 wickets in just 13 games. Overall, he has 99 wickets in just 63 IPL matches. Batters need to beware of him in the next season of the IPL.
