Pakistan came into recogniation in the game of cricket, in July 1952. They played their first international game, which was a test against India in 1952. And it took another 21 years to make their debut in a white-ball game. The Men in Green played their first ever ODI match in February 1973 against New Zealand. And since then, they have become one of the toughest opponents in the white-ball format.
But the real turn came in 1992, when Pakistan won their maiden ODI World Cup under the leadership of Imran Khan. They also won the Champions Trophy in 2017. However, Pakistan has always produced some batting greats. And that is why they are one of the most consistent teams in white-ball. In this article, we will cover the highest total by Pakistan in ODI cricket.
3. Pakistan (375/3) against Zimbabwe at Lahore
Pakistan has always played tough cricket in white-ball formats. However, without having many big hitters in the lineup, they have consistently reached 300+ totals more often than not. Their third highest total came in a match against Zimbabwe at Lahore. It was Pakistan that won the toss and elected to bat first. Both openers, Mohammad Hafeez (86) and Azhar Ali (79), gave a really good start and added 170 runs for the first wicket in 26 overs.
Then one massive partnership of 201 runs for the third wicket between Shoaib Malik (112) and Harish Sohail (89*) helped them to reach a huge total of 375/3 in 50 overs. In reply, Zimbabwe also played well but fell short of the target. They made 334/5 in the chase and lost the match by 41 runs. Skipper Elton Chigumbura scored 117 runs.
2. Pakistan (385/7) against Bangladesh at Dambulla
The second highest total for Pakistan came against Bangladesh in the 2010 Asia Cup at Dambulla. After winning the toss, Pakistan chose to bat first. They had a good start with both openers, Imran Farhat (66) and Shahzaib Hasan (50), scoring half-centuries each. They were going with a 6-rate per over. But the real change came when Shahid Afridi arrived at the crease. He just played as per his reputation.
Afridi scored 124 runs off just 60 balls, including 17 fours and four sixes, to take the score from 176 to 350 plus. With the help of his innings, Pakistan reached a massive total of 385/7 in their 50 overs. It was always a big task for Bangladesh to chase. That is what happened in the chase. Bangladesh could only manage 246/5 in 50 overs losing the match by 139 runs.
1. Pakistan (399/1) against Zimbabwe (Pakistan’s highest in ODI)
The highest score came against Zimbabwe on July 20, 2018 in Bulawayo. This match also saw the highest individual score for Pakistan in ODIs. It was the fourth match of the five-match series. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first. They had a dream start and both openers scored centuries and added a massive partnership of 304 runs for the first wicket. Imam-ul-Haq scored 113 runs and got out.
But Fakhar Zaman carried on and remained not out till the end to score the first double century by a Pakistani. He scored 210* off 156 runs and Asif Ali was not out at 50* off 22 balls, on the other hand. They scored 399/1 in 50 overs. However, they missed the 400-run mark by just one run, but it was a huge total. In reply, Zimbabwe couldn’t resist against Pakistan’s bowling and got all out for just 155 runs and lost the match by a huge margin of 244 runs.
