Paarl Royals: Many former cricketers and cricket pundits believe that the evolution of T20 leagues is the next direction for the game. Hence, we have seen so many T20 leagues being played across the world. One of the prime reasons behind this is that every nation wants to have its own T20 leagues because this gives their local players the best exposure among the top names.
On such a note, another league has been formed, which will be called the South Africa T20 League (SA20). Cricket South Africa (CSA) will organise this league and a total of six teams will feature in the tournament. The first season of this league will be played next year in January and February 2023. Some big names have already joined his tournament and will compete among others.
Paarl Royals Franchise
The six franchises which will feature in SA20 all have direct links to the Indian Premier League (IPL). It is because all these are the IPL team owners. One of the teams in SA20 is Paarl Royals, who are based in the city of Paarl in South Africa. The owner of the team is Royals Sports Group, who also owns the inaugural season champions, Rajasthan Royals, in the IPL.
Paarl Royals have announced David Miller as their captain of the team. Former South African all-rounder JP Duminy will be the head coach of the team. The team will play the matches at their home ground, Boland Park, Paarl. Royals picked up 17 players in the recently concluded auction and have made a strong squad for the inaugural season.
Paarl Royals Squad 2023
Royals mainly picked the big boys at the auction. They have successfully picked the destructive English trio of Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, and Eoin Morgan for their team. Buttler and Roy will give the firing start to their team. Then, the duo of Morgan and Miller will add the all-important firepower in the middle.
The franchise has also picked Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Bjorn Fortuin to make their bowling stronger. All these three are proven T20 specialists and can change the match single-handedly. To add to that, Royals have also added a West Indies left-arm pacer, Obed McCoy. He will share the new ball with Ngidi.
Royals have also invested in local talents for their team. The likes of Mitchell van Buuren, Wihan Lubbe, and Ferisco Adams will be the uncapped players in the team. Overall, the team is full of big names and is expected to dominate.
