3. Chris Gayle (42 years and 36 days) in the 2021 World Cup
Chris Gayle has been a part of the T20 World Cup since its inception. In fact, he was the first player to score a century in the first edition of the ICC event and that too, in the very first match. He is one of the few players that has featured in every edition of the World Cup. It will not be a wrong statement to say that Gayle is a true ambassador for the T20 cricket. He has almost every batting record in this format.
That is why he is known as the “Universe Boss”. And at the last edition in the UAE in 2021, he created another big record. The left-hander became the third oldest player to play in the T20 World Cup. He was 42 years and 36 days, when he play his first match of the UAE edition. Notably, Gayle has also won the T20 World title twice.
2. Brad Hogg (43 years) in 2014 World Cup
Brad Hogg became the second oldest player to play in a T20 World Cup when he stepped on the cricket ground in the 2014 event in Bangladesh. In fact, the former leg-spinner played his last T20I match in the same tournament against Pakistan. He was 43 years old when he played in the 2014 edition.
Notably, he is among the oldest cricketers to ever step on a cricket field. However, Hogg has played 15 matches in his career and has seven wickets in T20Is. But overall, he was one of the finest leg-spinners from Australia. In 123 ODI games, he took 156 wickets in his career.
1. Ryan Cambell (44 years) in the 2016 World Cup
The next player on the list has had a different career. Ryan Cambell, who made his debut in ODI cricket for Australia in 2002 against New Zealand, has played two ODIs for Australia. But after not getting many opportunities for his international side, he migrated to Hong Kong to carry on his cricketing career.
And in the 2016 World Cup in India, he made an unusual record. He represented Hong Kong in the 2016 World Cup and became the oldest player to ever play in the ICC event. He was aged 44 when he played his last game against Scotland in Nagpur in 2016. This is still a record.
