The Pakistan Super League, which came into existence in 2016, had five teams in the competition in its first two seasons. In 2018, it was the Multan Sultans who made their debut in the tournament. Although it didn’t go there in the first two seasons, it ended in fifth place in 2018 and 2019.
But then they picked up the pace. In fact, Multan won the championship in the 2021 season and ended the next season as a runner-up. In five seasons, there have been only three players who have led the team in the PSL. And we will talk about all those three players for the Multan Sultans in the PSL’s history.

Shoaib Malik was the first captain to lead the team since they made their PSL debut in 2018. Malik was part of the franchise for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, respectively. He led in both seasons. Under his leadership, Multan played 20 games but could only win seven and lose 12, and one match ended with no result. In both seasons under Malik, this team finished in fifth place. He played 20 games for them and scored 490 runs at an average of 40.83, including three half-centuries. Thus, Multan didn’t have a great start to the Pakistan Super League under him.
2. Shan Masood (PSL Captain 2020)
After Shoaib Malik stepped down as captain of the Multan Sultans and left the franchise, star Pakistani opener Shan Masood led the team. And he did a great job in his captaincy. Masood led Multan to the top four. In fact, they finished second runners-up in the 2020 season. Under him, they played 12 games and won six, lost four with one tied match and one match ended without any result.
Notably, Masood joined the franchise in 2019 and has been part of the team since then. He is the leading run-scorer for the team in the PSL. The southpaw has scored 1046 runs in just 34 innings at an average of 31.85 and a strike rate of 135.37. He has also scored seven half- centuries, with a best of 88.
1. Mohammad Rizwan (Led Multan Sultans to PSL 2021 win)
Shan Masood left the captaincy after the 2020 season. Then the franchise appointed Mohammad Rizwaz as the captain of the team. And that stroke did well for them. Rizwan proved to be a fantastic leader for them. In his debut season as a captain in 2021, he led the team to glory. Multan won their first PSL title under him in 2021. Then, he led the team to the finals of the PSL 2022 as well.
But unfortunately, they lost to the Lahore Qalandars to end the season as runners-up. Multan has played 24 games under Rizwan and has won 17, lost 7, for an impressive win percentage of 70.83. He joined the franchise in 2021 and has become their second highest scorer. Rizwan has scored 1046 runs in just 24 innings at an excellent average of 55.05 with 11 half-centuries.
