An ODI hundred is a special feat in a batter’s career. Because there are some cricketers who wait a long time to reach a three-figure mark in 50-over cricket. But then there are two types of batters: one who scores plenty of runs and centuries at home, and another who also dominates overseas.
In this article, we will discuss such batters who have scored the most centuries in overseas conditions. Notably, when it comes to most ODI centuries, two names come to mind: Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. But who has scored the most away centuries in their career, or is there someone else? 5. Sourav Ganguly – 18 ODI Centuries
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is fifth on this elite list. The left-hander scored 11363 runs in 311 ODI matches at an average of 41.02 and a strike rate of 73.70. He also scored 22 hundreds and 72 half-centuries, with a best of 183. Ganguly scored only four centuries in India; the rest of the 18 hundreds came outside India.
4. Sanath Jayasuriya – 21 ODI Centuries
Sri Lanka legend Sanath Jayasuriya also makes this list. He scored the joint-third most overseas centuries in ODIs. The left-hander scored 28 ODI centuries in his 445-match ODI career, and 21 of those came in away conditions. Jayasuriya also scored 13,430 runs and 68 half-centuries. Not just runs, the left-hander is the only player in history with 13000 or more ODI runs and 300-plus wickets. He also took 323 wickets.
3. Kumar Sangakkara – 21 ODI Centuries
Former Sri Lankan superstar Kumar Sangakkara places third on the list. The left-hander is regarded as among the best wicketkeeper batters that the game has produced. He scored the most international centuries for Sri Lanka combined across all three formats. Sanga played 404 ODIs and scored 25 centuries, and 21 of those came outside Sri Lanka. Overall, he scored 14234 runs at an average of 41.98 and 93 half-centuries.
2. Virat Kohli – 25 ODI Centuries
Virat Kohli is probably the best ODI batter in the game in the last decade or so. His consistency is just remarkable and has remained the same for many years. Virat is slowly climbing up the ladder for most ODI centuries and might go past Sachin at the end of his career. Virat has so far scored 46 ODI centuries in 274 games for 12,898 runs. He scored 25 centuries away and 21 in India.
1. Sachin Tendulkar – 29 ODI Centuries
Sachin Tendulkar is one of the biggest names to ever play cricket. He holds a number of batting records that are impossible to break. Especially in ODIs, there is no one close to him. Sachin scored 18426 runs (most) in 463 matches (most) at an average of 44.83. He scored 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries in his career. Sachin made a total of 29 centuries outside India in away conditions.
