5. Marvan Atapattu (16 centuries) in 90 Tests
Former Sri Lankan skipper Marvan Atapattu is fifth on the list with the joint-fourth most test centuries for Sri Lanka. The former skipper was a dependable middle-order batter in his time. He made his debut against India in November 1990 in Chandigarh. Atapattu went on to play for Sri Lanka for 17 years. In his career, he played 90 innings and scored 5502 runs in 156 innings at an average of 39.02. He also scored 16 centuries and 17 half-centuries in his career.
4. Tillakaratne Dilshan (16 centuries) in 87 Tests
Tillakaratne Dilshan was the player who did everything for Sri Lanka, which includes batting, bowling, and keeping as well. He ended up being a brilliant cricketer for his country. Dilshan made his debut in November 1999 against Zimbabwe. He was one of few players that played over 300 ODIs. But in the test, he played 87 games and scored 5492 runs at an average of 40.98, with the highest score of 193. Dilshan also made 16 centuries and 23 half-centuries in his career.
3. Aravinda de Silva (22 centuries) in 93 Tests
Former Sri Lankan skipper Aravinda de Silva has hit the third most test centuries for his country at the highest level. De Silva played test cricket for Sri Lanka for 18 years. He made his debut in August 1984 against England at Lord’s. He played a total of 93 games and scored 6361 runs in 159 innings, for an average of 42.97. In his career, he also scored 20 centuries and 22 half-centuries, with the highest score of 267.
2. Mahela Jayawardene (34 centuries) in 149 Tests
Former captain and the first Sri Lankan batter to score a century in all three formats, Mahela Jayawardene, is second on the list. He was the best batter for his country in his era. Jayawardene made his debut in August 1997 against India in Colombo and scored 66 runs in his debut innings. In his career, he played 149 tests (most for Sri Lanka) and scored 11814 runs at an average of 49.84. Jayawardene also scored 34 centuries and 50 half-centuries, with the highest score of 374 (fourth highest overall).
1. Kumar Sangakkara (38 centuries) in 134 Tests
Stats suggest that former wicket-keeper batter Kumar Sangakkara was the best test batter from his country. That is the reason he is sitting at the top of the chart. Sangakkara made his test debut in July 2000 against South Africa at Galle. The left-hander played a total of 134 tests and scored 12400 runs (most by Sri Lankan batters) at an average of 57.40. Sangakkara also made 38 centuries (fourth most overall) and 52 half-centuries in the longest format.
