IPL Auction 2023: The TATA IPL 2022 saw two new teams join the competition to make it more competitive. However, that just changed the whole scenario of the tournament. MI and CSK, which have nine titles between them, had the worst season. On the other hand, both new teams ended up in the top four, while the Gujarat Titans won the title as well. However, the second new team, the Lucknow Super Giants, also did well to end the season in fourth place.
The KL Rahul-led team ended the group stage in third place and lost the Eliminator to RCB in the playoffs. However, the team will ensure that they perform better than they did in the previous season, in IPL 2023. LSG already had a well-balanced team. But still, the franchise has made some well-judged moves ahead of the auction, which will take place on December 23 in Kochi.
IPL Auction 2023: Retained players for LSG
The team mainly relies on two bankable openers who scored most of the runs for them last season. Quinton de Kock and skipper KL Rahul were expected to be retained. Apart from these two, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni did pretty well in the batting; thus, both are back in the team. Marcus Stoinis, an Australian all-rounder, joined the team late last season and performed admirably in the few games he played. As a result, he is also on the list of players who have been retained.
Krunal Pandya and Avesh Khan were also regulars in the team, and they will be back next season. Mohsin Khan was one of the favourites last season for LSG, so they have retained him along with Ravi Bishnoi. The franchise has retained English speedster Mark Wood as well, despite his missing the last season due to injury. West Indian star Kyle Mayers also got the call.
Other uncapped Indian players like Karan Sharma, K Gowtham, and Mayank Yadav are also in the team. While the veteran Indian batter Manan Vohra was also retained. The management has shown trust in him. Overall, LSG has gone with almost the same kind of team that mostly featured in the last season. That might help them now.
Retained Players: KL Rahul (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Ayush Badoni, Karan Sharma, Krunal Pandya, Manan Vohra, Deepak Hooda, Krishnappa Gowtham, Kyle Mayers, Mark Wood, Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi
IPL Auction 2023: Released Players for LSG
Lucknow Super Giants made some big calls and released some big names ahead of the auction. A few other names surprised everyone when they were released by LSG. The first was former West Indian skipper Jason Holder, who did well for this team in the 2022 season. He played 12 games and picked up 14 wickets. But LSG has released them. Apart from him, another West Indian star, Evin Lewis, also got released.
Lewis played in a few games in the first half of the season. But once Stoinis joined the team, he didn’t get many games. Thus, the management decided to let him go. Apart from him, two overseas seamers, Andrew Tye and Dushmantha Chameera, were also among the released players. Thus, the management released four overseas players, which is the most of any team. Veteran Indian player Manish Pandey was another notable name.
Retained Player: Andrew Tye, Jason Holder, Ankit Rajpoot, Evin Lewis, Dushmantha Chameera, Manish Pandey, Shahbaz Nadeem
Remaining Purse Value for Lucknow Super Giants
After releasing four overseas players, LSG has added some money to their bank. Now the remaining value of the franchise is INR 23.35 crore. But the franchise has a few areas to consider in the 2023 IPL auction. They need a reliable middle-order batter and a death specialist.
