The T20 World Cup is one of the most awaited cricket tournaments among the fans. Every team gives their all to perform well in this event. That is why there are some amazing records that we can see in this event and some unwanted records as well. Some teams from around the world come to play in the World Cup.
That is the reason this is one of the most competitive tournaments in the world. In a given 20 overs, every team puts in every effort to score the maximum number of runs to get an edge over their opposition. But sometimes, in doing so, they lose the momentum and it results in a low scoring all-out. In this article, we will also check the lowest ever total made by the teams in the T20 Cricket World Cup.
1. Netherlands (39 All-out) against Sri Lanka in the 2014 World Cup
Netherlands holds one of the most embarrassing records in history. This was the 19th match of the 2014 World Cup between Sri Lanka and Netherlands. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka asked the opposition to bat first at Chattogram. But that day was arguably the worst day in the history of Netherlands cricket. Batting first, they lost three wickets for just one run.
After that, they couldn’t recover from that position, and the whole team got all-out for just 39 runs. They also registered the lowest ever total in the history of the T20I World Cup. Angelo Mathews and Ajantha Mendis took three wickets each. Chasing a small target, Sri Lanka just needed five overs and they won the match.
2. Netherlands (44 All-out) against Sri Lanka in the 2021 World Cup
History was once again repeated between these two countries in the last World Cup in the UAE. This was the 12th match of the tournament at Sharjah. Sri Lanka won the toss and asked the Netherlands to bat first. It was another poor start for the batting team, and they lost wickets at regular intervals. The Sri Lankan bowlers were all over the Dutch batters. As a result, the Netherlands got all-out for just 44 runs, the second lowest innings totals.
Colin Ackermann was the only batter to cross the 10-run mark, he made 11 runs. For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranaga took three wickets each. Chasing the target, Kusal Parera just took the game away and Sri Lanka chased down the target within eight overs. For his 3/7, Lahiru Kumara was named the “Man of the Match.”
3. West Indies (55 all-out) against England in the 2021 World Cup
This incident happened at the last World Cup in the UAE. It was the 14th fixture between the West Indies and England at the Dubai Cricket Stadium. The English team won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, the Carribean team had a horrible start and they lost their first five wickets within the first seven overs. And after that, the English bowlers just dominated the innings and bowled the West Indies out for just 55 runs.
Adil Rashid bowled an incredible spell and took four wickets and gave away just two runs. In chasing the target, England lost two of their four wickets, but in the end, the target was not that big. So they chased down the target with six wickets in hand and 70 balls to spare. Mooen Ali was named the “Man of the Match” for his performance of 2/17 in his four overs.
