This article will feature the lowest totals ever recorded in the Indian Premier League.
Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) vs Mumbai Indians – 66 all out in 2017
Delhi Capitals haven’t had the IPL that they would have liked. They have yet to win the championship in the last 15 years. Meanwhile some seasons they have just performed badly. They hold the record for the third-lowest IPL total. It came in the 2017 season when they faced the Mumbai Indians in the 45th game in Delhi. DC won the toss and decided to bowl. Mumbai had a great start, with opener Lendl Simmons scoring 66 off 43 balls.
Kieron Pollard made a 29-ball fifty and remained unbeaten on 63 off 35. Hardik Pandya also played a good cameo of 14-ball 29. MI reached a total of 212/3 in 20 overs. Chasing a big total, DC needed a good start. Delhi lost their five wickets within the powerplay for 35 runs. In the end, DC got all out for 66 runs in 13.4 overs to register the third lowest IPl total. MI won the game by 146 runs.
Rajasthan Royals (58 all out) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2009
The inaugural IPL season champions, Rajasthan Royals, hold the second lowest IPL total. They made it the 2009 season against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Cape Town. The 2009 season was played in South Africa. It was a low-scoring thriller, with the RCB winning the toss and deciding to bat first. However, they got off to a shaky start, losing both openers without any run on the board. Rahul Dravid played a good inning in the middle of 66 runs off 48 balls.
As a result, RCB reached a total of 133/8. It didn’t look like a challenging total for RR at the start. But the second inning was more entertaining. Chasing the target, only three RR batters reached the double figure, and all three made 11 runs each. Apart from them, none of the other batters scored five runs either. Thus, the Rajasthan Royals got all out for just 58 runs in 15.1 overs and lost by 75 runs. Anil Kumble registered a brilliant figure of 5/5 for RCB.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (49 all out) vs Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017
Getting all out below the 50-run mark is an embarrassment in itself. But what if one of the strongest batting lineups gets this unwanted record? That’s what happened in the 2017 season when the Royal Challengers Bangalore faced the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the 27th game of the tournament at Eden Gardens, RCB won the toss and bowled first. Sunil Narine (34 off 17) gave KKR a decent start, but after him there were no contributions.
KKR got all out for 131 runs in 19.3 overs. RCB had an easy chase in front of them in the second inning. And none predicted KKR’s win. But the second inning saw the worst batting performance. RCB got all out for just 49 runs in 9.4 overs, and none of their batters reached the 10-run mark. It was an embarrassment total, and RCB registered the lowest IPL total. As a result, KKR won the game by 82 runs.
