Chennai Super Kings (116 Runs in 2009)
Chennai Super Kings stands at the top position in the list of the lowest defended score in IPL. In the 54th match of the IPL 2009 against Punjab Kings (Formerly Kings XI Punjab), Chennai Super Kings got the chance to bat first and they added 116 runs for 9 wickets on the scoreboard. The target was not so big to chase down but Chennai bowlers performed outstandingly and stopped Punjab at 92 runs. Thus, Chennai saved the lowest defended total in the history of IPL and won the match by 24 runs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (118 Runs in 2018)
Sunrisers Hyderabad is placed at the number 2nd position for defending the lowest total in IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians met in the 23rd match of the IPL, where Hyderabad did not score big and set a low target of 119 runs for Mumbai. When Mumbai came out to chase the target, they could not face Hyderabad bowlers and the entire squad bowled out at 87 runs only, thus Hyderabad won the match by 31 runs and registered them in the list of lowest total defended in IPL.
Punjab Kings (119 Runs in 2009)
Punjab Kings is listed at the 3rd position for defending the lowest total in the history of IPL. Punjab Kings and Deccan Chargers faced each other in the 20th match of the IPL 2009, where Punjab got the chance to bat first and they added 119 runs on the scoreboard. In reply, when Deccan Chargers came out to chase, they struggled from the beginning and could make only 116 runs. Thus, Punjab saved the match by 3 runs and was listed in the chart of IPL lowest score defended.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (119 Runs in 2013)
Sunrisers Hyderabad is placed at the number 4th position for saving the lowest total in IPL. In the 22nd match of the IPL 2013 against Pune Warriors India, Hyderabad batted first and scored 119 runs on the scoreboard. In reply, Pune Warriors India came out to chase the easy-looking target but Amit Mishra did a fabulous job and stopped the Warriors at 108 runs by taking 4 important wickets in the match. Thus, Sunrisers Hyderabad saved the match and won by 11 runs, Amit Mishra was named Man of the Match.
Mumbai Indians (120 Runs in 2012)
The Mumbai Indians team is sitting at the number 5th position for saving the lowest score in the IPL. While playing against Pune Warriors India in the 45th match of the IPL 2012, Mumbai Indians batters could not add a big total on the scoreboard and ended up at the score of 120 runs. In reply, Pune came out to chase the target of 121 runs but their batters struggled from the beginning and could not maintain the required run rate and thus lost the match by just 1 run. Thus, Mumbai defended the lowest total and won the match by 1 run, Lasith Malinga was named Man of the Match.
