One of the eight franchises of the Hundred competition is London Spirit. The franchise is based in North London. This side represents three country teams: Middlesex, Essex, and Northamptonshire in the competition. Notably, the announcement of the Hundred competition was made in 2019, but due to some controversy, it took two years to start.
And the first edition of the tournament happened successfully in 2021, and the next edition will kick off in August 2022. Earlier in 2019, the London Spirit announced Share Warne as their head coach. But due to the unfortunate death of the legendary Australian spinner in March this year, the franchise has picked Trevor Bayliss as the coach of the men’s team, while Trevor Griffin is the head coach of the women’s team.
Speaking of the leadership, the former English skipper, who announced his international retirement, Eoin Morgan, is the captain of the men’s team. English women’s cricketer Heather Knight is captaining the women’s side. It was a horrible season for the men’s team last year, as they finished at the bottom of the table.
They just won one match out of eight, with six defeats, and one match ended with no result. The women’s team ended the season in fourth place with four wins, three losses, and one no result. The home ground for the London Spirit is the home of cricket, Lord’s.
London Spirit: Complete Squad
The franchise bought the former West Indies skipper, Kieron Pollard, back. Notably, Pollard missed the major part of the tournament last season due to his national duties and the CPL. Spirit tried to get the all-rounder Sunil Narine in the draft, but unfortunately, his franchise, Oval Invincibles, claimed him back.
The surprise signing was Liam Dawson in the draft, as he was picked up for an amount of 125k euros. Speaking of their batting department, Glenn Maxwell and skipper Eoin Morgan make a dangerous pair in the middle. In the bowling department, they have got the English speedster Mark Wood. They have also acquired the services of Australian speedster Riley Meredith.
Then they have got a hard-hitting all-rounder, Jordan Thompson, who has the batting strike rate of 165. Apart from Zak Crawley, they signed Daniel Bell-Drummond as a back-up opener.
Squad: Eoin Morgan (C), Kieron Pollard, Liam Dawson, Glenn Maxwell, Jordan Thompson, Mason Crane, Dan Lawrence, Zak Crawley, Chris Wood, Daniel Bell-Drummond, Mark Wood, Ravi Bopara, Adam Rossington, Blake Cullen, Riley Meredith, Brad Wheal
